The War of Lilies

On the island of Juno, in the second era, two ennemies clans had been opposing for quite a while without a war when an incident almost made everything fall apart. Despite having been in political conflicts for centuries, some alliances and peace treaties were signed or negotiated from time to time. At some point, the treaties were strong enough that they hadn’t been any war in quite some time, almost a century. And to celebrate the anniversary coming along of that big event, they chose to make an alliance by marrying the eldest of each family together. The Lord Lorino, from the Bacal clan was all for the alliance, but on the Grutti clan, the Lord Julio wasn’t so inclined. He preferred women to the company of men, and wasn’t really happy to be forced into an arranged mariage, especially when he as already in love with someone else. It is said that he declared his refusal in public in the middle of the betrothal celebration, such as he could not be refused of shushed. The clan Frutti was mortified, the clan Bacal vexed and war seemed inevitable. But despite being begged and threatened by his family, Lord Julio Frutti didn’t change his mind, announcing these famous words: “I would rather die in a fruitless war, than live a loveless life.” Thankfully, the youngest daughter of the Frutti clan, seeing how much her older brother was affected by the obligation, and proposed to negotiate herself the peace treaty. Lady Helena Grutti was delegated by her parents, who didn’t know what else they could do, and didn’t think she could do much more harm. The negotiations were done secretly and no-one knows how she managed it, but after a week she came back, married to Lord Lorino Bacal, and the peace restored. A lily as a symbol of their union. Since then, her parents let her take the direction of both clans, and the peace has never been broken.
