Dwarven Stone Death

Dwarves are being of living stone. Flesh given sentience. Not elementals, but beings of life made from stone. The life of a dwarf is long because of this, but nothing is immortal. Tareyroun made the first dwarves along side the other creatures that'd become the material plane's inhabitants.

Causes

Old age. As the dwarf grows older, the innate magic within them struggles to keep their flesh from become stone permanently. it starts on the outside and works its way inward as the magic the core of the dwarf gathers starts to be less abandonment.

Symptoms

The skin starts to get dry, in the tips of the extremities, then it'll start to turn to a form of stone.

Treatment

You can keep the effects away from vital organs for longer with certain spells and rituals, but they're costly. The resources required to do the ritual include treasured heirlooms of the dwarf. This is required for the fact that it's a spell about the reversing of the bodies age. This could theoreticly be permanent.

Prognosis

First, the body becomes less dexterous. The use of tools becomes difficult and walking is stiff. The stone parts don't hurt the dwarf, but the flesh touching the stone can be pinched or scraped. As things turn to stone, starting with the skin, it becomes harder to move everything. Movement is one of the first things to go, and soon after breathing becomes difficult. As the flesh under the skin starts to turn to stone, they can still be moved but with great difficulty. Eventually the organs turn to stone and the dwarf is entirely stone. It's possible to bind the soul to the stone body so that the dwarf can live as long as the soul remains on the plane. However most dwarves choose to let this be the end if they live to this point.

Prevention

Dwarves prefer to die before this can set in. A death by stone may not be dishonorable but it is horrifying and deeply scaring.
