The Yutai Opera School
In everything, style
The Yutai Opera Schools are temples/private boarding schools who take in students across all the races of sentient beings in the Hune. The most well known of these schools are those based in Baezwar and the Jhaedi Gulf.
In learning Yutai Opera, attending students develop skills in martial arts, bardic magic, Ki manipulation, tumbling, and dance performance. These skills are developed primarily to entertain royal and higher-class audiences.
Yutai combines music, magic, vocal performance, mime, dance, and acrobatics. They act as a bard college, an illusionist school, and a monastery all rolled into one. They use the skills of speech, song, illusory magic, dance, and traditional fighting styles in movements that are symbolic and suggestive, rather than realistic.
Above all else, the skill of performers is evaluated according to the beauty of their movements.
Structure
Historically, pupils are handpicked at a young age by a Master and trained for a period of seven to ten years, on contract from their parents or guardians. In case of orphans, the House adopts them into their corporate family, going so far as to make them take the surname Yutai.
Soon after their training begins, new recruits are put on certain tracks: Acrobatics, Acting, Combat Dancing, WishPainting.
Each track seeks to master a certain set of skills and abilities.
Each track is run by a Grandmaster, who in turn is surved by a hierarchy of Masters and Instructors.
Adepts are initiated into the Operatic life within their first few months of training (if they haven't been drummed out by then)
Usually the adept is approached by one of several quasi-secret societies within the Opera house. Adepts are then sworn to uphold that particular society's values.
Adepts advance by mastering skills-sets and special abilities.
