Kal'suud

Kal'suud is a large, independent city in the Hub, residing in the middle of a great plain far from any of the Entropic Wastes. This great city has the highest population of any one settlement in the entire known Multiverse, and has long been considered the most important city in the Multiverse because of its important role in transversal relations among other Verses. This is because of a centuries-old deal cut by the four lords of Kal'suud and the Hub Council that they would convene in the city's Lawmakers District, which was originally considered after the Hub Council decided to settle on a concrete meeting place instead of rotating throughout the Multiverse every five years.
Kal'suud has four districts, each dedicated to a certain aspect of their culture. The first, Fivepoint Plaza, is the market district as well as the center for almost all transversal trade in the Multiverse. It also serves as an excellent place for any guild, faction, or entrepreneurial merchant to carve out a place for their business. In fact, that is exactly what the Gilded Guise, the largest merchant guild in the Multiverse, did as their founder made Kal'suud its base of operations in what is now called the House of Gold. The second, the Lawmaker District, is home to all things and people in the city related to politics, from news articles to courts of law to the four lords of Kal'Suud themselves. It is also home to the city guard, also known as the Unblinking Eyes' headquarters, from which the Lawmaster General enlists and controls the general activity of the Eyes. The third district, called the Devout District, is home to temples to each of the Alchemicals and monasteries and other such sanctuaries devoted to the gods, including an orphanage connected to the Biogenerators and a House of Blood, one of the many sanctuaries for Reapers throughout the Multiverse and also a funeral service. Among these homes of the gods is a temple devoted to each of the Alchemicals, specifically the Church of Ba'al's largest temple and most influential place of worship, the House of Ba'al. The fourth and final district, the Residential District, is just that. The Residential District is home to the vast majority of the population of Kal'suud, as well as the largest concentration of inns and taverns in the city. If one is bent on a good night's sleep in the City of Wonders, any of the Residential District's fine inns will deliver on that, though if one was in a tight spot one might find refuge in one of the monasteries in the Devout District.

Demographics

There is a wide variety of every race, solidifying Kal'suud's position as the nearest thing to a metropolis. In fact, there is even a small amount of giant and dragon population, though because of their impressive size they have been confined to the outskirts of the city.

Government

Kal'suud is divided into four districts, so it is only natural it would have four leaders. The four lords of Kal'suud, despite their name, are a small cabinet of elected officials which represent each of the four districts of the City of Wonders. These "lords" are responsible for discussing and acting on the legality, morality, and general benefit to the city of any number of policies which might be presented by one of them or through a petition system instated via a series of riots caused by civil unrest regarding unfair working conditions.

Defences

The great city of Kal'suud is surrounded by 20-foot walls with turrets along them and towers on each of the five points they come to. Patrolling these walls are members of the Unblinking Eyes specifically trained in archery.

Industry & Trade

Kal'suud is first and foremost a trading city, with a quarter of the city's actual landmass comprised of a sprawling market district known as the Fivepoint Plaza, which bustles with noise and life at all times of day. Its list of imported and exported goods is too long to read, as it is the central fulcrum to most transversal trade. As for its population, there is a great number of actual merchants residing in Kal'suud, while many others work in the manufacturing and transportation of goods, and yet more people work for one of the several guilds and factions fighting for power in the city.

Assets

Given the city's original intent as a center for trade, Kal'suud's city coffers are deep. As such, the City of wonders lives up to its name, offering spectacular sights in the form of beautiful works of art and grand, intricate architecture. This economic advantage also means that the city can afford the finest accommodations for its elite, as well as the strongest warriors in its city guard.

Guilds and Factions

There are installations of each major guild in Kal'suud, carving out their own space in each of the city's major districts. Additionally, there are a few smaller factions fighting for land and power within Kal'suud's nigh sprawling cityscape.

History

Kal'Suud was first founded by a certain proud BioMajus as a trade outpost, but as alliances between the Verses grew over time, the city evolved into where it is today. Only in the past century or so, however, have any guilds or factions attempted to seek power within what was once a simple market settlement. Of course, no unfamiliar tourist would know that by looking at how integrated each faction is into the city's culture and how much each one wants to have control over the entire city. Nevertheless, since its founding, Kal'Suud has become a symbol of unity among the Verses and serves as a fine example of the end result when people decide to work together.

Tourism

Due to the city's grand reputation, as well as its exact position in the Multiverse and the fact that it sits right on top of a nexus, Kal'suud is the Hub's greatest tourist destination. Despite the great city's original intent as a mere trading checkpoint, it has earned an excellent reputation for being greatly accessible to tourism, and in fact tourists make up a surprisingly large portion of the city's gross income. The most common type of tourist is the one who simply came to enjoy the many delights of the City of Wonders, but knows very little about what kinds of goods and services the city actually provides.

Geography

Kal'suud sits smack in the middle of a vast plain spanning hundreds of miles in each direction. The majority of the space it takes up in this plain, however, is farmland, which supplies most of the city's food. The rest of the plain is populated by small animals and the occaisional band of gnolls.
