Gloworb

They're so beautiful at night...

Folklore

The Gloworbs are seen as a fairly normal part of life. It is said they were made by the gods to light up the nights when the stars weren't out.

Light of the gods

A fairly old short story details how the Gloworbs were created by the gods to light up the nights. After a very long night without stars, they could see how the humans struggled to keep going without any light, and so they created the Gloworbs.

Physical characteristics

The Gloworbs are almost cartoonish in appearance. A small yellow ball with the ability to fly and light up.

Bodyshape

The Gloworb is a small round creature, about 10cm in diameter, with 6 legs and two wings. It also has two antennas in order to feel it's way around when it gets dark. Inside its body, there's a liquid that when stimulated makes the Gloworb start glowing.

Glowing

The Gloworbs all have the ability to start glowing at will. This is usually done at night, and by varying the amount of glow as well as shifting they are able to communicate. For being so small the amount of light they produce is quite significant. A small flock of 10 Gloworbs can light up a small meadow without trouble.

Colors

All Gloworbs seem to be the same yellow color, but when you look closer they have a bunch of different hues within themselves. The parts that glow are almost neon green, while the other is a more yellow color. If you look really close there's some orange and red too.

Behaviour

The Gloworbs like to hang out in open spaces, whether that be meadows, fields, roads or towns. If a creature walks by they scatter a little bit, but they're not afraid and will still hang around if not actively chased.

Communication

The Gloworbs use different colors, brightness, and sometimes even blinks to communicate with the other Gloworbs in the area. Most signals are pretty easy to understand, like a yellow Gloworb being happy, and a red being agitated. they can, however, communicate with incredible nuance. A color difference so small a human wouldn't notice seeing them next to another can completely change the more complex meaning of a message.

Intelligence

The Gloworbs are creatures that live almost completely on instinct.
