Uropytheres
Guardians to the Heart of Chaos, created to preserve the sanctity of its temple grounds.
Hundreds of years ago, an event happened in the abyss, causing demons to be created, and the Unholy Crusades began. As demon-kind, created from the devoured material of lowly insects and bugs, was sprung upon the Tellurian plane and havoc was wreaked upon the mortal world, the power of the abyssal plane began to weaken. Both mortals and cosmic beings alike went into the abyssal plane and took the fight to them, hoping to stop the infernal armies in their tracks. These warriors, all mighty, were the first to lay eyes upon the governing entity of the abyssal plane, the Heart of Chaos, a literal beating heart that distributed power to the plane, and to the demons. Seeing a vulnerability, the warriors managed to strike a powerful blow against the Heart, crippling it and the demonic armies in turn. In reaction to this, the Heart of Chaos recalled their 6 strongest soldiers to protect itself from any further harm. Outclassed and outmatched, the warriors fell to the might of the abyss, but their souls lingered, to be used and manipulated by the Heart.
The six demons which felled the warriors were granted the power of their souls, empowering and transforming them into what are now known as the Chaos Sentinels. The Sentinels each vowed to protect the heart in their own ways: two of the Sentinels sacrificed their bodies to create the colossal temple that surrounds and protects the Heart of Chaos; three of them formed themselves into a coiling trident, so large that no living thing could ever wield it, except for the abyssal plane itself; the last of the Sentinels sliced their flesh apart, so that their blood would run, and a species of demons would be created in their image, serving the Heart of Chaos for eternity, across all lifetimes. These demons would become known as the Uropytheres. With the lower half of a scorpion and a humanoid torso, the uropytheres stand eternal guard over the gates of the Heart of Chaos, striking with holy fury against any who disturb the sanctity of the Heart. The vestiges of their creation manifest in the form of an insignia, a sign of power and worthiness that commands respect from all of demon-kind.
