Sync

Sync is a stimulant comprised of nanites. When injected into the bloodstream, the nanites flow to the brain and stimulate the central nervous system, effectively enhancing the brain's processing abilities. It's frequently taken in small doses as it can help with mental acuity and increased alertness. However, in large doses it can increase brain functionality to match that of a super computer.
Sync is extremely addictive and easily acquired across the galaxy. However, side effects can include increased heart rate, jitters, anxiety, insomnia, and ADHD tendencies. In worst case scenarios, long-term use can result in permanent sleep loss and even full-body paralysis as the brain begins to work faster than the body can keep up with.
Many hackers, especially bionics, take sync when brainjacking into a computer, as it allows them to mentally plug into a computer’s systems and navigate with only their minds. This process is faster than hacking with a piece of tech, however it is also extremely dangerous because if the brain cannot keep up with the computer, the brain’s synaptic pathways will be stretched too far, then snap back, causing brain damage and even brain death.
Sync is normally taken in the form of pills and chews and is distributed in many flavors. The nanites work quickly, so it’s relatively common for users to take it first thing in the morning as a swift pick-me-up. However, the nanites die after only a few hours, after which they can either be replenished with a new dose or recharged with a controlled electrical shock.
Sync can also be taken through direct injection into the bloodstream, however this is only possible for bionics with neural implants, which help regulate the nanites. Without implants, a direct dose of sync would be too much for the brain to handle, resulting in brain death.
