The Caverns

The Caverns are a large cave system which previously wasn't colonized, however a few ambitious people from the deserts have very recently organized the start of a new settlement. The Caverns themselves are damp and dark, however the high amount of gems and ores are always attracting people to enter thr caves, however most of the time those who head into an area known only as the Abyss, a deeper portion of the caves that has a subterranean ocean inside, they never come back out. Multiple stories and legends have sparked up from the Abyss, from a lost young girl who drowned in the Abyssal water, to a strange creature that drowns explorers. There all just legends and none have been proven, though... the sounds of crying and disembodied splashes need to explained for the sake of this new settlement. The resources that people will/do get from the caverns are as follows: ores, gems, cave algae, special plants that are very nutritious, and meat from very abnormal creatures. The Cavern settlement will give the creatures that dwell inside a much better chance of being discovered and studied.
In terms of species present in the Caverns the known creatures are as follows: Umbreins, Cavern catchers, Shadowstalkers, Ghouls, Gigabats, and the infamous Dane hunters, however that last species is extremely rare. So it's not worth worrying about. It's unknown what or who lurks in the Abyss, researchers are on the fence about what's in there, most say an unknown species, but the sounds of crying which are often heard, are to human...
Cavern flora is interesting, some plants found there have healing properties, such as numbing or even helping to combat certain diseases. That last fact has made the Swampfarers value the Caverns immensely, the people who colonized the caves know that, these people now control the entire Mainland's healing supply, and if they wanted to they could hoard it for themselves, but that would easily start a war they know they can't win, unless they were to align with other Directors.¬†
"Call me paranoid, but I have a bad feeling about this new Settlement... since they control the healing supply, they could hoard it all, and leave us with nothing!" "Yeah, you're just paranoid, Layla." - An exchange between Layla and Charlie.
