Stephen Porter

Inheriting one of the lesser identities of his teacher, the famed Doctor Quantum, Stephen Porter takes to fighting evil using the advanced Nano suit that allows him to shrink down to tiny sizes, among other fancy gadgets. A loving father, though a bit of a character, he's a proud member of the Atlas Group.

Special abilities

Nano has no superpowers without his suit. He does have some skills worth noting:
Genius-level Intellect: Having graduated from college with top honors and becoming well-acquainted with the QuanTech, Nano is very resourceful and intelligent -- at least when he needs to be.
Basic Hand-to-Hand Combat: Nano has some combat skills, though not nearly on the level of a specialist. However, he works well using his Nano Suit in tandem with his fists to battle.

Specialized Equipment

Nano Suit: This is where he draws his sizeshifting powers from. It's a green suit that completely conceals him, which is needed for his powers to work. It allows him to shrink and grow back at a moment's notice, and he maintains his strength in his small form, allowing him to act as a bullet. The suit enables him to shrink down to truly tiny sizes, though with a built-in limiter to prevent him from going too small and being unable to regrow.
Utility Belt: Nano has a special belt around his suit containing special gadgets that assist him battle.
Ray Gun: Nano carries a special gun in his belt that shoots blasts of energy, which can harm or freeze people in place.
Nano Bombs: Tiny but powerful explosives useful for sabotage.
Cutter: A device that projects concentrated energy, which can make entrances in hard surfaces where an entrance isn't available.
Grappling Hook: Wrist-bound device that allows him to quickly cling to anything near him when using a nanobot isn't available or practical.
Nanobots: Tiny robots that Nano can control using the suit, allowing him attack, transport himself, protect, or use safety in numbers.

Personal history

Stephen Porter was born in Rochester, Minnesota to a relatively mundane family. His father Bill was a woodworker while his mother Wendy took care of him and his younger brother Matt. He would say it was relatively boring living where he was, and turned to superheroes as a form of escapism. He loved reading comics and watching news articles of their amazing battles and deeds. In particular, he was a major fan of Col. Freedom, as he really admired the idea of a boy scout superhero who could save the world.
As he grew older, Stephen went to college and became a top student, keeping on top of everything no matter how much it drove him crazy. One fateful day, Robinson "Rob" Spiegel, the former Doctor Quantum, gave a seminar at the college during his tour that Stephen attended. There was an assassin waiting there to murder him for reasons unknown, but Stephen discovered it and thwarted the attack just in time. This led two to meet, with Rob profusely thanking him for the act, and gave him an offer as a reward -- to train as his apprentice in QuanTech Industries. Stephen accepted without hesitation.
There he moved to New York City, where he was trained in using and experimenting with the kind of technology that Spiegel invented. They formed a tight father-son type of relationship. It was also there where he met what he once thought was the love of his life, Lea Tremblay, a Canadian who was residing there. They had a daughter together, Beverly, and all was well.
Stephen inherited the title of Nano, which was one of Spiegel's lesser-known identities. He was offered to inherit Doctor Quantum entirely, but decided against it out of respect for him. As the size-shifting hero, Nano has saved many lives and eventually found himself in the Atlas Group.
Unfortunately, his wife would divorce him, stating that his love of superheroics got in the way of the family. While he still remains a hero to Beverly, he can now only see her one weekend a month and now must pay for child support while a man who's mean to him has taken his former wife -- a fact that angers him underneath his happy surface.
