Chatter & Melody Society

The Society is to be a way for people like us, those cast aside by most and picked up by who-knows-whatsits, to actually exist openly and not die or go crazy. That’s my hope.Featured here is the Seal of the Chatter & Melody Society. It combines imagery that represent all the known Eras, whose powers allowed for the founding of the Society. In the center is the Eye of the Legend, flanked by the Lyre, Wings, and Tail Staff of the Songbird. The Arrows of the Expanse pierce the Wings, and the Tentacles of the Speculation which hold the Waves of the Wanderlust before spiraling into the Smokesignal of the Expanse. Below the Tail Staff are the Foxtails of the Chatter, from which hangs the Medal of the Duty. The Jeweled Wings of the Splendor extend into the Hook, Line and Sinker of the Contradiction. Above the Eye are the Elytra and Antennae of the Mimic, which further extends into the Circuits of the Progress and the Smokestacks and Emissions of the Industry. The Emissions support the lettering that says “CHATTER & MELODY”. The founding date of 1850 is below the Hook, Line, and Sinker, as is the motto of the Society: “REFERIMUS, MEMINIMUS, SUMUS”, which means “We record, we remember, we are.”
Structure
Top Level Officials
The highest level of seniority and appointment one can achieve in the Society are the posts of RECORD-KEEPER, ARCHITECT, and HEARTH-TENDER. The RECORD-KEEPER is usually a devotee of the Legend or the Contradiction, and is always the direct vessel of the Teary-Eyed Vulture. No matter their previous appearance, the RECORD-KEEPER, upon ascending to their post, will gain numerous cataracts in their eyes, giving them a ‘teary’ look, black hairs mixed in with their original hair color, and all the abilities associated with the Teary-Eyed Vulture entity. See [TEARY-EYED VULTURE] for more information. The RECORD-KEEPER is a lifelong position, and is only vacated upon the death or disappearance of the previous holder of the post. The ARCHITECT is usually a devotee of the Legend or the Songbird, or were Watchers (it counts since the last four, and possibly the next, were or are WATCHERS of a certain variety {okay fine just this once} yay) previously, and alway spawns a new entity of INTER-DIMENSIONAL CLASS upon their ascendency. Notable previously spawned entities are the Eternal Candle Vigil, the Never-Dry Quill, and the Overseer of the Broken Threshold. ARCHITECTS vary wildly in their appearance and abilities, but usually possess powers related to creation, observation, documentation, and/or technology {heh, wasn’t true for ██████, amirite?}. The ARCHITECT is usually a lifelong position, but there is a small clause built into the Founding Writings that allows for the retirement of a sitting ARCHITECT upon ‘great bodily and/or mental harm, a discovery of a greater calling by Things Beyond Our Minds, and/or extreme trauma resulting from any source’. Sadly, many ARCHITECTS start out as and remain field agents, so the ‘great bodily and/or mental harm’ happens more than is often, but they choose to stay on until they die or consent to retirement. The HEARTH-TENDER is usually a devotee of Legend or Splendor, and less often one of Chatter. They are always the TOUCHSTONE for the Guiding Light, which, to summarize, is an amalgamation of many entities that usually have something to do with fire, light, food, reincarnation, and sometimes love. HEARTH-TENDERS are usually possessing of fire-related or light-related powers, and can usually bend emotions to a degree. The HEARTH-TENDER is a lifelong position.Referimus, Meminimus, Sumus
