The Grand Concourse

The Grand Concourse is the main hub of the ship - where most of the activity happens on the ship. The Concourse takes up five decks and is the second most popular set of cabins outside of the galaxy view.   The Grand Concourse has restaurants, shops, clubs, and entertainment venues. The lowest level of the Concourse has clear floor panelling to view the broad expanse of the Heart Garden below, offering one of the most unique views in the Galaxy. It has retractable floors to leave the concourse open air, or offer tiered levels for balls, concerts, or conferences.

Purpose / Function

The Grand Concourse was originally built as a high end entertainment venue, and many of it's original features and amenities remain intact, even if they don't see much use. A full service spa is available, along with access to the Artisan's Quarter. The Casino still operates, though with fewer high stakes tables, and though the restaurants don't attract the highest paid chefs, they do produce fresh, quality food.

Alterations

Any high-end luxury features that had any value have long been sold and replaced. Others have been added as an aesthetic coverup for missing or damaged features. All of the original art has been replaced by creations from the Artisan's quarter.   Initially there was a Grand Chandelier hanging over the Concourse of fine crystal. Those crystals have long been sold off and are replaced by a light feature of cascading Comet Orchids. A fantastic waterfall that cascaded down all levels with swimming pools remains, but instead of the original aesthetically clean design, the Heart Garden has been allowed to grow organically up over the waterfall.

Architecture

The Grand Concourse occupies five floors of the Comet, and has a mixture of facilities for the use of the residents, guests, and crew of the Comet.   Some of the finer luxury rooms are on the highest level of the concourse, with a penthouse level that creates a view over the entire Concourse. The luxury suites have full sized beds and bathtubs, with a comfortable receiving area.

History

The Concourse was designed to be the center of activity and the big draw for guests. It was supposed to be a hub of activity, a place to see and be seen. Exclusive concerts were hosted there, grand balls and theatrical events, and it was once the hottest place in the Galaxy.   Dozens of captains have downgraded the Grand Concourse over time, selling off assets and covering over unusable flaws. Under Captain Timora Rill, she has taken the time to feature the artists and performers who live on the Comet, creating a Renaissance in space.
