Victor's Port

Overview

A proud city, Victor's Port was originally an obscure village before the Elven Empire came, overtook it, and expanded it. Since Bloodhaven drove the Empire out, the port city has been a source of pride for the region.
Despite the respect given to the city itself, Porters rarely get the same treatment. The city sits where the Blind River, called Heaven's River by the dead Empire, meets the Major Dawn Sea. It has been heavily reinforced by the Empire and has great wealth due to its prime location. Because of these privileges, life is considered exceedingly easy in this city compared to the rest of Bloodhaven. Porters are often the center of jokes made by other Bloodhaviens.

Commerce & Tolls

Being the city that controls the Blind River's entrance into the Major Dawn Sea, thousands of ships visit the city each year. Victor's Port is considered one of the largest trading cities within the region. Many different items from the various cultures of Acoria, and occasionally beyond, are found here.
On top of its bustling trade, many less-than-savvy folks visit the port to find an easy and safe gateway into the shadier side of Bloodhaven. There are multiple underground businesses that will happily show a mysterious individual around the hidden parts of the region.   Like any big city in such a pivotal location, Victor's Port makes heavy use of its influence to collect tolls from ships passing down or up the river. Any ship that can't afford to pay the fine will be turned away, even if it means they need to make the strenuous journey back up the Blind River.

Leadership

Unlike most other settlements within the Bloodhaven region, Victor's Port is run by a strict government. While most Bloodhaviens rejected the thought of being ruled after the Empire's control, Porters now embrace the order brought by governance. Just another reason for other Bloodhaviens to mock Porters.   A council oversees Victor's Port along with a mayor they elect every five years. The council is made up of ten individuals plus the elected mayor. There are five positions within the council, each position is shared by two members. The positions are ambassador, chief of military, judge, residential overseer, and treasurer. In the case of any disputes between those that share a position, the mayor has final say.

Architecture

Due to Empire's control of the city for decades, the original architecture that was present within the village is long gone. Now almost the entire city is made up of stone buildings of Elven design, even the newer buildings have taken inspiration from the elves. It is currently the only city within Bloodhaven to have standing Elven buildings.

History

All known mentions of the name of the original village that was founded where Victor's Port now stands is gone. It was still small at the time the Empire came and overtook it, which it hardly had a chance of resisting. They named their new city Authan Port. The control of this small village went largely unnoticed until the Empire attempted to expand farther into the region now known as Bloodhaven. When they brought attention to themselves by conquering the region's settlements, the remaining towns formed an alliance to overthrow the Empire.
The war that ensued lasted nearly a century, the natives understanding the land far more than the invaders. A couple times the rebels had gained control of Authan Port but each time they were eventually forced back out. This back and force went on until the rebellion came up with a plan to intercept reinforcements traveling to the port city. They waited in the dead of night within the river beside the city until they saw the ships coming. When they attacked, they found far less soldiers than they had expected. Once dawn came, they used their newfound ships to wrest control of the port from the Empire once again.
Later that day, terror struck. Fire fell from the sky and consumed the earth, bringing yearlong droughts with it. The Calamity of Blindness had come. But they had won against the Empire. The Empire would fall to the Calamity. So despite the suffering that came from that day, it remains a bittersweet memory for Bloodhaviens who remember it as the day they earned their freedom.
Since that day, the port was renamed to Victor's Port, the river it sat beside to the Blind River, and finally the region was now called Bloodhaven.
