The Known Universe: Terra Lyra

Terra Lyra is the working name for one of many stories in the Known Universe.   In the first volume we learn about the history of Lyra and its struggle for independence through Akan - one of the many humans who fought for what they believed until the Planet broke free from Terra.   Born and raised in one of Lyra's Homesteads, Akan had a loving family and steady childhood. By his 14th year all changed: The demonstrations became riots and escalation thereof led to war. Then The Disease came from nowhere and everywhere at once. Father said the only chance was to leave. Leave to Terra.   His arrival will put into motion workings he will only understand a lifetime later. What do the future and Earth hold for a Lyran boy whose life they ripped apart?   The answer comes down on him years later, just as Aka is beginning to accept his life on Earth. His commanding officer Miura has been attacked by the Infected. The mauling is being kept away from the unit, things aren't lining up with what's being said and why would a seasoned soldier go out into the remains of the Breakout? Aka must discover the truth that killed his friend even if it sends him down the same path.   Along with its successor "Lyra Thaws" and completely independent literature "Terra Berga", Terra Lyra tells the stories of its people's struggles, grievances and how they shaped their path on these planets.
