Campaign 1 Journal

Session 1 - 28/06/21

23rd of Aurgern, 1812CE - Hakon Mountain Range, Hakon Province

As our adventure began, three adventurers - Ortun Finisterre, Caleb and Aerinia - had journeyed into the foothills of the Hakon mountain range. Having received letters from Rasmus Greylock, principal advisor to the crown, requesting their aid, the adventurers gathered at a clearing a couple of miles south of a research outpost maintained by the Torell Academy of Magic that had been captured by Morgovan extremists.

There they met Delrigg of Grava, who had been hired for the same mission as the three of them. After some tense introductions the group made its way north, following a mountain path towards the outpost and learning a little more about one another along the way. They dispatched two extremists standing guard some distance from the outpost, before making their way up to the structure. After a thorough scouting of the perimeter, including Aerinia flying up to a balcony to survey some of the first floor, the party entered the building by stealthily removing the boards blocking up an empty room. They then moved swiftly through the outpost, encountering several groups of extremists that were dealt with with little trouble, as well as showing extreme prejudice towards doors, of which they kicked down many.

In the final room they rescued a number of captive scholars. Upon freeing them, Ortun questioned the head scholar who revealed to the party the outpost's purpose - the observation of a kind of natural flow of magic deep underground, known colloquially as a 'Ley Line'. With Caleb suggesting that the extremists may have dark intentions for this magic, the party asked if any research had been stolen, only for the head scholar to reveal the existence of a basement level, thus far undetected by the adventurers.

Session 2 - 05/07/21

24th of Aurgern, 1812CE - Hakon Mountain Range/Alshus, Hakon Province

The party descended to the basement level, where they discovered a cavernous chamber with a pit in the centre. The remaining extremists were scavenging from the surrounding work stations and chests, and the group rushed to fight them with Delrigg leading the charge.
As battle raged across the chamber, Ortun and Aerinia circled around one side of the pit while the raging Delrigg engaged the leader of the extremists with Caleb backing him up at a distance. While Aerinia and Ortun cut down the extremists (with both suffering injuries and Aerinia throwing two of the foes into the pit), Delrigg and the Captain fought a lengthy duel that ended with the Captain's death at the hands of a dagger thrown into his posterior by Ortun.

The extremists looted and burned, the party handed over control of the outpost to arriving soldiers as Delrigg parted ways with the others. Travelling through the early morning, the three arrived at the town of Alshus. Visiting the blacksmiths to sell the looted swords, the general shop for supplies, the woodworkers to buy Aerinia a hand crossbow, the watchmaster's to ask after a couple of extremists believed to have escaped the outpost, Ortun visiting a church to the twelve to pray to Tritan, the group found themselves in the 'Remarkable Light' tavern for a meal. There Caleb met Silk, a halfling merchant who swiftly recruited the party to aid his wealthy friend Ardryll. Ardryll, a successful painter, has been plagued by disappearing paintings and believes it to be the work of the supernatural, while the more sceptical Silk believes thieves to be responsible. Travelling to Ardryll's home, the group met the young elf and agreed to stay in his home overnight to investigate the mystery.

Session 3 - 12/07/21

24th-25th of Aurgern, 1812CE - Alshus, Hakon Province

The party was joined by Skrael Migglemek, a wandering Tortle similarly recruited by Silk. The newly formed group decided to rest until the evening, and awoke close to midnight. Having split up to monitor the house, Caleb witnessed a shadowy creature pull itself out of the floor, leaving the wood rotten behind it. Calling the others, Ortun identified the creature as a wraith.

Engaging the creature in combat, the group wore it down and eventually slew the monster. Investigating the rotten wood it came through, and speculating that it may have an entrance below the house, the party delved into the cave tunnel below and discovered Ardryll's missing paintings, along with a desiccated corpse lying by a caved-in tunnel.

The next morning, the group received a monetary payment from Ardryll and observed the corpse being removed by a celebrant from the church, and decided to observe the burial of the body later in the day. After retiring to a tavern for a meal, the party decided to stick together for the purposes of travelling, and after visiting the watchmaster's station they decided to investigate a beast attack on the east of town. There they found the Watchmaster, Rickard Sternbound, coordinating repairs on a building savaged by a juvenile Wyvern.

Session 4 - 19/07/21

25th-26th of Aurgern, 1812CE - Road to Taptilden, Hakon Province

Setting out from Alshus, the party travelled for much of the day along the road towards Taptilden. Along the way they encountered a strange circle of standing stones, and after some examination they set off on their way again. Finally deciding to rest, they set up camp within some woods only to notice a distant light in the woods. After being attacked by three gnolls they investigated the distant light and met Elim Bug, an elderly man living near a gnoll-infested mine.

Deciding to clear out the beasts, the party slept in Bug's house, with Ortun experiencing an unsual dream during the night. In the morning they crept into the mine, and Aerinia slew the gnolls while they slept with an exceptional display of stealth. Taking what loot they could find, they returned with the Pack-Lord's head, which Ortun used to play a joke on Bug. Setting off once more, the group found traces of the Wyvern's path as they travelled further east. Skrael communicated with several animals and determined that the beast had come through almost a week before.

Close to evening, the party came across a grey barrier of magical nature. Trying to pass through, Skrael and a rope-attached Ortun passed through the barrier, emerging on the other side to find the continuing forest darkened by an ethereal twilight, and the way back impenetrable. After a moment Caleb and Aerinia followed them through, only to find that two hours had passed for Skrael and Ortun. Confused but continuing along the forest path, the group was ambushed by a group of a dozen armed guardsmen, who called for the party to halt.

Session 5 - 25/07/21

26th-27th of Aurgern, 1812CE - Taptilden, Hakon Province

Accosted by a troop of guardsmen, the party was escorted to Taptilden. Along the way they spoke to Nikol Selby, Captain of the village watch, and realised that something was very wrong - the villagers regarded the outside Kingdom with distrust, and seemed incredulous that the group could have come from there. Arriving in Taptilden, they spoke with Gideon Burr, the chief of the village, and learned that Taptilden had been trapped inside the barrier for more than two hundred years from their perspectives.

Another villager, elven scholar of the arcane Yinris Eytherlarn, was called by Gideon to inform the party of a monstrous entity that stalked the night within the barrier, conjuring huge swathes of fog to disguise its movement and taking many of the village's livestock. It had also killed Gideon's daughter two years ago. Decided upon helping the village, the party joined Selby for the night's watch, after privately discussing amongst themselves their fear that the entity could be responsible for the creation of the barrier. They also noted that the Wyvern they'd been tracking could now be fully-grown and very dangerous.

During the night, fog rolled in from the forest. However, Caleb was able to use his magic to disperse it and the party discovered Yinris, wrapped in a bulky costume and masquerading as a monster. An interrogation revealed that the elf had been raising the Wyvern that had attacked Alshus, and had fled with the creature until he discovered a device that allowed him to create the barrier to keep the Wyvern from harm, allowing it to age in an isolated environment until it could protect itself.

Turning Yinris over to the village watch, the party ventured into the forest and discovered a cave with a mysterious metal-and-stone temple built into it. There, upon a pillared nest, they found the Wyvern. Engaging the beast in combat, with Aerinia casting Phantasmal Force to make it believe it was trapped within a flaming cage. The group continued to wear down the creature until it broke free and injured several members of the party before being slain by Ortun. The party then investigated an ancient device that seemed to be powered by a type of pseudo-magic and could be interacted with via a psychic interface. Ortun then lowered the barrier, freeing Taptilden. Returning to the village (after using the Wyvern's head for a prank on the villagers), they were welcomed as champions and given a large quantity of gold in thanks, as well as a horse and wagon. Deciding upon travelling along the eastern coast to Bessaker, the party set off on the road at dawn.

Session 6 - 09/08/21

27th-31st of Aurgern, 1812CE - Bessaker, Hakon Province

As the party journeyed along the road to Bessaker, they encountered a man lying by the roadside asking for medicinal help. When Caleb attempted to help him, the man attempted to kill him, narrowly stopped by Caleb's quick reflexes and the use of his magic. The would-be assassin spat the words 'Demon' and 'Outlander' at Caleb before being consumed by fire as a tattoo on his wrist activated.

Continuing on to Bessaker, the group found lodgings at the Golden Eel tavern. They then spent several days on various tasks, such as Migglemek wandering the wilderness around the port city and the party visiting the Riddled Realm, encountering the strange rodent-formed enchanter Remy. After visiting 'Miriam's Magical Mixology' alchemist shop and a blacksmith's (where Ortun acquired improved armour), the group attended the Summer's Dusk Festival, an event celebrating the end of summer and the approach of the coming harvest. The party enjoyed a day at the festival, participating in and winning several carnival games and several members having their tarot read. Suddenly screams and commotion broke out in the distance, and the part rushed forward to meet whatever havoc had arrived.

Session 7 - 19/08/21

31st of Aurgern, 1812CE - Bessaker, Hakon Province

Entering the centre of the festival, the party encountered six large creatures that Migglemek identified as Phase Spiders, venomous beasts from Aria. The group engaged the monsters and was able to slay them all, and were thanked by Heward Redthorne, captain of the Bessaker city guard.

The party then split up to investigate the mystery of the spiders' appearance. Migglemek searched the docks, visiting the Landed Shark tavern where he met Thule, a tortle captain from the Arian islands who seemed evasive when told about the attack. Thule then left, stating that he needed to get sailing back to the islands. Meanwhile, the rest of the group discovered that the alchemist shop they had visited previously had been robbed, the robbery occurring suspiciously close to the attack on the festival.

Session 8 - 30/08/21

31st of Aurgern, 1812CE - Bessaker, Hakon Province

With their leads pointing them towards a thief who had stolen medical supplies, the party visited the Alma Monastery, previously sighted by Migglemek during his explorations of the city. They met Mother Sillguard, lead matron of the monastery, and upon asking about any sudden changes in the patients were directed towards Grecius, an elderly man who had made a miraculous recovery since the visit of his nephew Edric some hours earlier.

Believing Edric to be the assailant they were after, the party talked to Grecius and learned that Edric usually frequented the Landed Shark. Travelling there with a detachment of guards loaned to them by Captain Redthorne, the group identified Edric and went to question him. Aerinia and Skrael had a dance-off in the middle of the tavern while Ortun questioned Edric, eventually intimidating the boy to such an extent that he tried to run, only for Caleb and Migglemek to tackle him and restrain him.

Imprisoned in the city cells with several of his friends, Edric confessed under interrogation to being a member of the Silver Gloves thieves guild, and revealed that the guild had been behind the phase spider attack. Edric, a low-ranking member of the organisation, had heard of the plans and decided to take advantage of the lowered security to steal medicine for his uncle. He then gave the party the location of the thieves' guild's base in Bessaker.

Session 9 - 13/09/21

1st of Sestern, 1812CE - Bessaker, Hakon Province

Taking the night to rest and plan their next move, in the morning the party travelled to the location Edric had given them, where they ventured into the Bessaker sewers and discovered a concealed entrance in the wall that led into the base of the Silver Gloves. After a discussion in the entry hall, the group split in two to explore along two hallways. Searching several empty bunk rooms, the two pairs found themselves outside two doors that were discovered to lead into the same room when Ortun kicked down the door. Beyond they found a training room with a magical wind chime that seemed in perpetual motion. Continuing on, they came to an open room with a raised section above. Aerinia heard a voice speak in her head calling her forward, and as they entered the room two cloaked figures emerged from the shadows on the upper level, with a third dropping an invisibility spell.

The central figure, a masked woman Aerinia identified as Owlfolk, introduced the three as leading members of the Silver Gloves, and herself as Leidra. She revealed that the guild had organised the attack on the festival under the payment of Roland Errington, a wealthy and influential politician with designs upon the barony of Bessaker. However, he had promised a strong guard presence to minimise risk to civilians, only to double-cross the guild and lower festival security leading to the loss of eight civilian lives. Angered, Leidra told the party they would be allowed to leave with this knowledge while the Silver Gloves vacated the city. Dagon and Ilia, the other two thieves, seemed bothered by the idea of letting the party leave but were silenced by Leidra. An argument ensued between Ortun and Caleb over the morality behind not trying to apprehend the thieves, but a vote led to the party deciding to leave, believing the risk of additional concealed thieves to be too high. Ortun instead lambasted Leidra, accusing the thieves of having blood on their hands before storming from the chamber, followed by the rest of the party.

Back on the Bessaker streets, the party split up, with Caleb heading down to the docks, still frustrated at the group's actions in the sewers. Ortun left to seek out the city stables, while Aerinia and Migglemek made for the city archives in search of information.

Session 10 - 18/10/21

1st - 2nd of Sestern, 1812CE - Bessaker, Hakon Province

Caleb wandered down to the docks, where he spent some time tending to several injuries and illnesses while learning several pieces of gossip and rumour, including that Roland Errington had made an accusation against the Baron of being unfit for his position, and was expected to launch his own campaign for the barony at his Sestern ball. He also learned of a Rudanian ship that had been lost at sea, as well as talk of the fireworks display that marked the town of Rygnestad's own Summer's Dusk festival.

As Caleb worked along the docks, two newcomers to the city stepped off the ship that had ferried them from Rygnestad. Kaotisk, a tiefling Dragoon, and Arinami, a human wielding a strange weapon, wandered along the docks until spotting Caleb. Kaotisk stopped, stunned at recognising Caleb from the book she possessed, a book filled with illustrations revolving around five individuals fated to join forces. The two approached Caleb and introduced themselves, following him when he tried to evade them and finally forcing him to listen as they tried to explain the nature of the book to him. Confused but seeing no way of escaping them, Caleb sighed and invited them to join the party back at the Golden Eel Tavernn.

Meanwhile, Ortun journeyed to the South Bessaker Stables, where he was shown the stock of horses by a boy named Oliver. Picking out and purchasing a strong black horse, the Paladin made arrangements with Heward Redthorne to have the horse brought along with a detachment of guards soon to be sent to aid Taptilden, so that it could be gifted to Elim Bug.

In the Bessaker archives, Migglemek went to research a section on maps and navigation while Aerinia conducted research into the Penumbra, a shadowy organisation often identified by the symbol marked on a coin held by the would-be assassin the party met upon the road to Bessaker. She learned that the cabal was believed to operate independently of the Ilstan government and worked to protect the Kingdom through less ethical methods. Upon going to leave the archives she was unable to locate her tortle companion, only to be approached by a librarian and given a letter. In it, Skrael wrote that he planned to pursue Thule back to the Arian islands, in the hope of bringing him to justice for the role he played in the attack on the festival. Along with the letter he had left behind a roll of fabric: his cloak of billowing.

Reconvening at the tavern, the rest of the party were introduced to Kaotisk and Arinami. Disbelief and suspicion soon gave way to a reluctant acceptance, and Ortun and Caleb contemplated bringing the two along for a while to see if they could prove their value to the group. The newly-formed party then sat together to make their plans for what to do about Roland Errington. Caleb shared what he had learned about the Sestern Ball, and a plan was devised; Aerinia would build a name for herself as a local performer in the hopes of being hired to perform at the Ball, while Caleb and Ortun would pose as nobles and attempt to gain some of the invitations often gifted to influential individuals. To this end the group set out in the morning for the Spire district. Aerinia (with Arinami as a backup dancer) auditioned at a theatrical bar known as the Wayfarer's Cove, while Ortun and Caleb visited a tailor's shop run by five Halfling sosters and paid for fancy new clothes. The group gathered to watch Aerinia's evening performance, with Caleb observing the room while Aerinia and Arinami wowed the room and Kaotisk gambled against several patrons and Ortun befriended a group of sailors. As the evening drew to a close, Caleb spotted an older gentleman making notes while seeming impressed by Aerinia's performance.

Session 11 - 01/11/21

3rd - 10th of Sestern, 1812CE - Bessaker, Hakon Province

Aerinia continued to perform at the Wayfarer's Cove for several nights, eventually being hired by Scarren Morn, Butler of the Errington Estate, to perform at the Sestern Ball. Initially offered 100 gold pieces, she negotiated her way to 150. Meanwhile, Ortun and Caleb were approached and offered invitations to the ball.

On the night of Errington's Sestern Ball, Aerinia travelled to the Errington Estate with Arinami and Kaotisk, with Kaotisk aiming to pose as her bodyguard. There they were greeted by Scarren Morn and a tuxedoed Goliath called Sidrak. They were told that bodyguards could not be allowed entry, and the trio moved out of sight so that Aerinia could cast invisibility on Kaotisk, allowing her to slip into the manor. With the ball beginning and Ortun and Caleb arriving (Caleb posing as Ortun's manservant), Kaotisk began to explore the manor while Aerinia began to perform. Other notable guests arrived - the Baron of Bessaker, Delsaran Oakenheel, the Baron of Rygnestad, Sigur Elessar, the Baron of Faehalm, Ludvark Palewind, the Jarl of Hakon, Hervor Grynn. Also in attendance were Heward Redthorne, Gelert Oveir (owner of the Wayfarer's Cove), Jenviel Vallore, captain of the Silent Call, and Guy Garrick, Bessaker Harbourmaster.

During the evening, Kao managed to infiltrate Errington's quarters, tussled with an enchanted rug, and then escaped with several ledgers and letters. Meanwhile, the party spoke to several members of high society, including the Baron and indirectly the Jarl. Aerinia was recognised by Baron Palewind, who spoke angrily to Oakenheel about having fired Aerinia from his employ due to a family scandal. After the theft was discovered (Kao having made her escape through a window), the party regrouped at the tavern and decided to go to Captain Redthorne and inform him of their discoveries, as the ledgers incriminated Errington in many criminal dealings. Aerinia also revealed that she had been fired by Palewind after sleeping with his daughter.

Session 12 - 09/11/21

11th of Sestern, 1812CE - Bessaker, Hakon Province

The party went to Redthorne with their discoveries and found themselves presenting their evidence to Baron Oakenheel. After Errington tried to flee the city he was imprisoned, and the party was rewarded with a great deal of gold for both their help in uncovering the conspiracy as well as for saving Taptilden previously.

Uncertain of their next move, the party eventually decided to travel south, and to that end visited the Landed Shark tavern, where they met Captain Jenviel Vallore and the crew of the Silent Call. They booked passage with the ship to Farness in Kalmar Province, and Aerinia struck up a curious friendship with the Half-elf captain. Setting sail, Caleb and Ortun continued their training on the deck of the ship, watched by the crew and passengers, including Bernard - a cleric travelling to Sunnmore. Later on, the party were challenged to a drinking competition by the crew, and after a series of rounds the party were successful.

Session 13 - 16/11/21

12th-16th of Sestern, 1812CE - The Eastern Sea

Waking with hangovers, the crew had a moderately uneventful day at sea, watching as they travelled south over the beautiful eastern seas. That night, Caleb was lured below decks and attacked by two assassins of the Penumbra, who were destroyed by their brand magic after failing to kill him. The commotion drew the attention of the crew, and the assassins were discovered to have hidden on the ship. A search was conducted, only for no further intruders to be found.

The next few days at sea were uneventful until the early hours of their penultimate day at sea, when the party were woken by the sounds of fighting above decks. Monstrous merfolk known as Merrow had attacked the ship, led by Shallow Priest who utilised devastating lightning attacks against the party. Joining the crew in a fierce battle against the creatures, the Merrow were defeated, with Ortun batting several off the ship with his trident. The battle won, the party joined in the mourning of several crew members, including Timothy O'Sheir, the first mate. Aerinia filled in as navigator, and Kaotisk as first mate, and the party aided in the sailing of the ship until the next morning, when the town of Farness came into view, with Kaotisk recognising the lighthouse from a page in her book.

Session 14 - 23/11/21

16th of Sestern, 1812 - Farness, Kalmar Province

Arriving in Farness, the party disembarked the Silent Call. The night before, Aerinia had a dream in which a deity of some kind recruited her to cleanse his shrine, apparently infested with a dark presence. She was gifted a compass to lead her there.

Kaotisk went to register the ship's arrival at the harbourmaster's office and encountered an owlfolk boy, who was revealed to be Stalvort, one of Aerinia's brothers. Reuniting with her mother and other brother, Siegor, Aerinia spent the day visiting the Farness botanic gardens and apiary before visiting the theatre to watch a play with them in the evening. Meanwhile, the rest of the party explored the seaside town of Farness, with several members visiting the Crone's Cottage, a mysterious cottage outside of Farness where Madame Mere, an elderly crone, lives and sells potions. Caleb, during his visit, realised that the crone was, in fact, three Kobolds standing atop one another and hiding behind a cloak and veil.

Kaotisk had the idea to run a fight club, pitting experienced fighters against one another for entertainment, and she and Arinami split up - Kaotisk visiting the Ghastly King tavern to try and seek out the leader of the 'King's Men', a mafia-like group known to operate in the area, while Arinami discussed the idea with the town guard. Kaotisk encountered Yasha Yndrokna, leader of the King's Men, in the undersea Ghastly King, there discovering Ortun, who had slipped away to drink with sailors. Yasha approved the fight club, agreeing to set up the event for the night after next with the King's Men taking 80% of entry profits.

Session 15 - 06/12/21

17th of Sestern, 1812CE - Farness, Kalmar Province

Reconvening in the morning, the party decided to seek out the shrine that Aerinia had been summoned to cleanse. Travelling into the woods, they eventually came across the hidden entrance to the shrine. Entering, they realised that a pack of Wendigos, malevolent undead monsters, had taken up residence in the shrine. They fought their way onwards, being ambushed at several turns and solving a puzzle involving a melodic tune, before coming to a cavernous room with lots of vegetation and a colossal tree.

Spotting the key to a trapdoor on one of the tree's branches, Aerinia attempted to fly up to get it. However, he tree caught her in its grasp, being revealed to be a Hangman's Tree, a sentient creature that would catch creatures in its vines before devouring them. The party battled against the tree, taking several hits before retreating to a safe distance and attacking it at range, subjecting it to a number of vicious mockery attacks that eventually slew the monster. However, in its dying moments the tree let out a piercing howl that echoed throughout the shrine, and the party rallied to move forwards and face whatever dangers lay below.

Session 16 - 04/01/22

17th of Sestern, 1812 - The Shrine of Rawiri, Kalmar Province

Descending to the lower level of the shrine, the party moved from room to room, sweeping through the dungeon and slaying several Wendigos that ambushed them. They begun to feel temporal distortions as they moved forwards, and Kaotisk's book was suddenly blurred and unreadable. They decided to send Aerinia into the next room first, and she discovered a chasm that spanned a large cavern; it was filled with a black liquid-like gas that seemed to show a reflection of the same cavern below it, but one devoid of life or light. On the opposite side of the cavern there was movement, and the party found themselves facing a monstrous creature with elongated claws and a skeletal form. This boneclaw speared Aerinia from across the chasm, forcing her to fall back as the party moved forward to fight it. Kaotisk leapt over the chasm to engage it in combat, and she and the monster battled back and forth over the chasm, the boneclaw using its claws to swing from the cavern roof. More wendigos emerged from side passages, and battle filled the cavern.

The bonclaw managed to grapple Caleb, wrapping him in its grip, and threw him into the chasm. Kaotisk dived after him, but paused for too long in the gas while attempting to discern more of the strange cavern below. When she pulled Caleb from the chasm, he seemed to have been infected by his time in the gas, with some of the black energy still bound to him and his skin turned a clammy grey. Kaotisk returned to battling the boneclaw and was able to slay it by slicing it in half. As she did so, the gas dissipated from the chasm, leaving only a shallow riverbed. With the remaining wendigos defeated, the party regrouped to check on Caleb, with the exception of Aerinia, who was visited by Rawiri. The Vaku thanked her for cleansing his shrine and gave her the Tunic of Rawiri, a light garment that enhanced her skills and could change colour.

Determining that Caleb's affliction was beyond them, the group began the journey back to Farness, with Kaotisk being blamed somewhat for Caleb's fate.

Session 17 - 11/01/22

17th-18th of Sestern, 1812CE - Farness, Kalmar Province

Carrying Caleb back to Farness, the group reached the outskirts of the town near dusk and decided to ask Madame Mere for help. Upon seeing Caleb's condition, the three kobolds revealed their identities as they scurried around in an attempt to create a potion to heal him. They were eventually able to stabilise him, though warned the party that he may never recover and would likely be unable to walk for several weeks. The party decided to leave Caleb in the care of the kobolds.

The next morning, the party were given two letters by a courier - one from Elim Bug, who had used the horse Ortun had gifted him to aid in mining precious stones from his mine. He enclosed several precious gems as well as a large diamond. The other letter was from Rasmus Greylock, summoning the party to Sunnmore, capital of Ilsted, to become adventurers of The Crown. After visiting Caleb, who had decided to stay in Farness and aid the kobolds in their potion-making and healing business, the party reconvened at the Ghastly King tavern. Kaotisk, who had travelled there earlier in the day, had already learned the identity of many of the participants in the fight club, including a reappearance by Delrigg of Grava and Captain Jenviel. Bernard Tealeaf was also there, having been hired as healer. With evening setting in, the fight club began. Kaotisk won her fight against a monk called Luther, and Delrigg defeated a half-orc, Felgrim, by catching his two energy-infused gauntlets and crushing them. Jenviel defeated Sark, a drow arcane archer, and a strange dwarf who had entered an armour-clad statue (as was revealed when its arm was cut off to reveal stone beneath) had the statue defeated by Savaran, a dragonborn with a flaming sword.

Kaotisk went up against Delrigg of Grava, defeating him after a close-matched battle. Aerinia, who had come to the fight club in full performance gear, also aided in the fight with bardic inspiration. Delrigg joined the rest of the party at their table and acknowledged respect of Kaotisk's skills. Meanwhile, Ari went to speak to the dwarf, identified now as Urist, who expressed interest in her gunblade. In the pit below, Jenviel dueled with Savaran and defeated her. In the final match, Kaotisk dueled with Jenviel, their fight taking them into the air as Kaotisk's dragoon jumping attacks were matched by Jenviel's own formibable skills of aerial combat. After a prolonged battle, Kaotisk emerged triumphant, winning the fight club and being awarded 500gp by Yasha. The group then returned to their table, accompanied by Jenviel.

Session 18 - 18/01/22

19th of Sestern, 1812CE - Farness, Kalmar Province

In the aftermath of the fight club, Kaotisk became disillusioned upon realising that her book was still blurred and unreadable. She asked Jenviel if she could join the crew of the Silent Call as first mate permanently, which was accepted by Jenviel. Saying her goodbyes to the group, she left with the group, wishing to leave before Ari returned. When Ari returned, joined by Urist, she chased after Kaotisk and the two said their goodbyes on the gundeck of the Silent Call. Meanwhile, Urist decided to join the group in their travels, and they opted to begin their journey to Sunnmore the next day.

In the morning, Aerinia said her goodbyes to her mother and brothers, and then the party joined Urist at the western gates before setting out on the Eastern Coast Road. After travelling for much of the day, the group crested a hill and were faced with a valley dominated by a colossal skeleton, its spine suspended 500 feet in the air. The party made their way through the valley, eventually making camp under its shadow. Ortun investigated the area, determining that the landscape had once been desecrated, long ago.

Urist asked Arinami about her gunblade, prompting her to demonstrate its use. Afterwards, Aerinia and Ortun took the first watch, taking some time to discuss their adventures thus far and Kaotisk's departure. Only an hour into their watch, however, they saw a dark bird-like shape emerge from a section of the spine. This demonic vulture, seemingly drawn by the sound of Ari's gunblade earlier, circled towards them before diving and engaging the party in battle. The party were joined mid-battle by a dragonborn wizard, who emerged from the hills and joined them in fighting the monster. The final blow was struck by Ortun, and the party gathered in the aftermath to greet the newcomer.

Sessions 19 - 23

20th-26th of Sestern, 1812CE - Kalmar Province

After meeting Vyaran, a wizard from Sunnmore, the party journeyed to the capital and became adventurers of the Crown under the watch of Rasmus Greylock. They were granted a house, Briarwood Manor, and after relaxing in the capital for a couple of days were summoned and given a quest in Lysaker, investigating disturbances there. While on the road, the group encountered several more stone circles and learned of their purpose - blood-activated gateways that could be used to travel to any other gateway that they knew the dial code for. After arriving in Brekklavik and saving it from several ogres, they tracked the ogres to their camp and defeated them, though their leader - a monstrous oni with fearsome magical abilities - escaped. They then travelled through a gateway, finding themselves in Bledbark Forest in western Ilsted. There Vyaran encountered the mysterious entity known as the Willow Man, making some kind of pact with him. The group soon reached Lysaker, a city perpetually rotating with many rings making up its structure. They met Rushon Lucindra, and were told of several strange events that had followed the receipt of a letter from 'Rexskezzen the All-Seeing', who had laid claim to the city. A bugbear slaughter of a family had followed, with the bugbear writing 'Rexskezzen' on the wall in their blood before killing itself. Several peculiar magical occurrences had also been noted around the city. The party began with questioning a woman whose brother had warned her to 'avoid Spiral', a club in the spire of the city. Fearing an attack on Spiral, the group investigated the club and planned to await inside the club at night to try and prevent whatever could be planned.

Session 24 - 14/03/22

26th of Sestern, 1812CE - Lysaker, Kalmar Province

The group waited in Spiral, a strange tavern known as a 'club', with Aerinia watching from the catwalks in the ceiling as the other party members mingled with the guards they had placed there. They soon noticed a sick-looking man approaching the dance floor and attempted to intercept, fearing a viral attack. However, the man exploded in a fireball that killed several civilians and loosed some sort of strange, poisonous toad-like demon. Another exploded into being nearby, and the party battled the fiends as civilians rushed to escape. After a close duel, Arinami sliced open the rear of one, and after a brutal battle with Urist the other was felled by a shatter spell by Aerinia. The group reconvened in the aftermath to discuss their next move.

Session 25 - 21/03/22

27th of Sestern, 1812CE - Lysaker, Kalmar Province

The party retired for the night. During the night Ortun had a dream of a wood near Lysaker, in which he saw a shattered trident laying at the bottom of a lake. Meanwhile, Vyaran had a dream of being petrified into wood, and Aerinia received a sending message from Rexskezzen threatening the party if they continued to investigate him.

In the morning, the party were summoned by the Cordorum to meet with the Gearmaster, Daegrum Stonesong, who informed them of a bridge that had its protective runes fail simultaneously. Urist spoke with the dwarf for a time and was taught a new infusion that allowed for resistance to different damage types. The party then headed to the Lysaker Hall of Knowledge and researched various topics in an attempt to learn about what Rexszkezzen could be. They also met Thena Longgrove, the Loremaster, who was likewise attempting to learn what she could about Rexskezzen. The group then travelled to the Sunspire market, perusing several strange stalls and meeting a Tortle tattooist. They then brokered a meeting with the Simling, an information broker Naga. The Simling made a deal with the party to trade its knowledge of Rexskezzen for a service, offering them the choice: hunt down and slay either the white hydra known as the Pale King, or a dragon called Gelidon, the Choking Death. The party decided to hunt down Gelidon, believed to reside in the Laranwood, the forest from Ortun's dream.

Session 26 - 04/04/22

27th-28th of Sestern, 1812CE - The Laranwood, Kalmar Province

After taking a night of rest, Exscrotur took to the Hall of Knowledge to learn what they could of Gelidon. They learned that he was a green dragon, two hundred years old, known to have sequestered himself in the Laranwood after a battle with Ildrosynn, ancient emerald dragon of the Gronn moorland. After stocking up on supplies to combat this threat they travelled south to the Laranwood. There they met Evala, a tiefling ranger who helped guide them deeper into the strange forest. The party eventually came to a clearing containing the lake from Ortun's dream. Ortun and Evala dove to the lakebed and retrieved the shattered fragments of the broken trident, only to wake Gelidon, who was sleeping at the lakebed.

Gelidon spoke to the party, telling them of a dragon who had designs upon taking over Lysaker and who could well be Rexskezzen while guised as the Simling. However, this proved to be a ruse as the decitful dragon assaulted the group with poisonous breath, leading to a fierce and prolonged duel. During the battle Gelidon showed magical abilities to influence the mind and control over the very landscape of his lair, while Ortun summoned a water horse and rode it across the lake to wound the dragon with a new dragon-slaying lance gifted to him by Urist. With Arinami cutting through conjured thorn bushes and falling into the lake in an attempt to attack the dragon and Aerinia and Vyaran attempting to cast spells upon it from a safe distance, the battle was eventually turned in the party's favour by a critical hit with a lightning arrow attack by Evala. Soon after the party wore down and slew Gelidon, with Urist getting the final blow and absorbing some of thr drsgon's power. As the party regrouped, Evala seemed to have vanished and Vyaran found a bracelet left by her that contained a protective enchantment, while Ari spotted a cave opening at the lakebed.

Session 27 - 11/04/22

28th of Sestern, 1812CE - Lysaker, Kalmar Province

In the aftermath of their battle with Gelidon, the party discovered his hoard, hidden in a cave beneath the lake. They looted it, gaining a multitude of coin as well as several artifacts and treasures. They found a wood carving, seemingly depicting precursor races, as well as a piece of driftwood that seemed to catch Ortun's attention, with the letters ARTE carved into it. After looting the hoard, the group received a sending from Rushon informing them of an attack in Lysaker upon the Westwater Gaol. Leaving Urist in the Laranwood to butcher the corpse, the rest of Exscrotur returned to Lysaker and travelled to the prison, where they found a scene of carnage. Rushon told them of several inmates having been telepathically contacted by Rexskezzen and promised freedom in exchange for servitude to him. The attack was carried out by a group of orcs aided by a dozen owl-bear-bat hybrid monstrosities. Rushon also informed them that they were invited to dine with Luso Stroll, Timekeeper of the Cordorum, that evening.

The group visited the Simling, and in exchange for the head of Gelidon (after trying another prank with the head) were told what the Simling had learned: that Rexskezzen was a being known as a Beholder, capable of warping reality and both powerful and paranoid. They also discovered his location, by tracking the effects of his reality-warping with the movements of the rings of Lysaker, determining that all the ambient effects were all actually happening in the same relative space. Aerinia later scryed on the Beholder, and witnessed him torturing an Orc while discussing plans for an assassination and conversing with a strange crystal.

They then went to have dinner with Luso Stroll, engaging the curious elf in conversation and discussing the Helmore, a likely spot for Rexskezzen's lair located under the city by the Helssar river. During dinner Luso and Ari discussed her weapon, the Gunblade, and spoke of the attempts at creating a projectile-firing version that she and Urist had worked on (these attempts having been employed during the battle with Gelidon, to mixed success and then explosive failure). Having been inspired by Ortun's comparison of the weapon to a cannon, the two spoke of the possibility of creating a miniaturised, hand-held version, and the group was invited to stay at the Clocktower overnight to allow for this research. They headed to Luso's workshop where, with Ortun, Aerinia and Vyaran watching, Luso and Ari worked for a couple of hours, eventually creating the first gun. Arinami fired the first shot, shattering a vase, and Luso suggested the name Dämmerung, Draconic for 'Dawn'.

Retiring for bed, Aerinia scryed on Rexskezzen again (after putting a drunk, Sloth-polymorphed Vyaran to bed) and witnessed him observing the final creation of a shapeshifting monster by a captured human wizard. Rexskezzen also referred to a captured dragon who was to be tortured to maintain its obedience. Meanwhile, Ortun dreamed of a shipwreck caused by a mysterious and colossal entity.

Session 28 - 18/04/22

29th of Sestern, 1812CE - Lysaker, Kalmar Province

The group awoke in the morning and begun their preparations for battling Rexskezzen. They visited Orly, the Tortle tattooist in the Sunspire market, and got enhancing tattoos. They then proceeded to gather supplies and returned to Luso Stroll’s quarters in the Clocktower, where Ari and Urist worked with Stroll in further gun development. Arinami created a revolver system for a pistol, which was given to Vyaran, as well as four more flintlocks, which were given to Ortun. She also incorporated the revolver function into a gun implemented into her own Gunblade. Urist, meanwhile, created a weapon designed to bridge the gap between gun and cannon, creating a double-barrelled shotgun he named ‘Karmaraz’. During the day the group also went to the Hall of Knowledge to attempt further research into Beholders, only to have the book they were reading from warp into a threatening message from Rexskezzen himself.

The party were making preparations for the evening when Aerinia scryed on Rexskezzen only to see him torturing a Crystal Dragon. Hoping to save the dragon, the party immediately set out with eight highly-trained guards from the guardhouse and descended into the Helmore. After travelling through the tunnels they came upon a carved entrance into a pit that ran a hundred feet down before a base of spikes. They begun climbing down this pit when Urist’s new stone homunculus servant, Drakk, detected movement from one of two tunnels halfway down the pit. Several of the bat-owl creatures emerged into the central pit and a fight broke out. During the battle one of the monsters grappled Aerinia, and threw her down the pit towards the spikes.

Session 29 - 26/04/22

29th of Sestern, 1812CE - Lysaker (Rexskezzen's Lair), Kalmar Province

Ortun immediately drew the wand recovered from the Merrow Shallow Priest, used Misty Step to teleport to the falling Aerinia and swung out on the rope, catching her as she fell. The battle continued, with the bat monsters continuing to pour out of the tunnel into the pit. Some flew up higher, managing to throw off a guard before being slain by Gorthon, a dragonborn guard accompanying the group. Urist and Vyaran were both cast into the pit, but were able to survive the fall. Eventually the monsters were destroyed and the group journeyed into the left-side tunnel. There they disarmed a trap before coming to a prison, where a mage called Lucien was being kept. Freeing him and sending him back with two guards, the group faced off against a Gelatinous Cube that emerged from the opposite side, wearing it down before the guards destroyed it with a volley of crossbow bolts.

After traversing another, smaller pit, the group came to a chamber where the Crystal Dragon was kept. Vyaran went to speak with it, suffering a blast of radiant light from the dragon in her attempts to calm it, before persuading it to allow them to free it. As Urist unpicked the chains and manacles holding it in place, the dragon identified himself as Cassius. Vyaran introduced the group, and Gorthon was sending with the surviving guards to escort Cassius from the lair. The group rested, during which they received a sending from Rushon telling them that the guards had returned. They then moved into an arena-like room, as Rexskezzen emerged from the other side.

As Exscrotur battled against Rexskezzen, several of them came under fire from his eye rays, which produced various effects or damage types. Ortun was briefly paralsysed while riding on his summoned steed, while the rest of the party took up defensive stances in a circle around the arena. Rexskezzen floated ever higher as he blasted Arinami with a petrfication ray, and she was turned into stone. Ortun rode past and was able to drag the statue out of harm's way. The group continued to battle the Beholder, wounding it repeatedly before Urist was hit with the petrification ray.

Session 30 - 02/05/22

29th of Sestern, 1812CE - Lysaker (Rexskezzen's Lair), Kalmar Province

As Urist was turned to stone, the rest of the party fought against Rexskezzen and were finally able to slay the Beholder after Ortun used his wand to teleport above the monster and strike it down with smite. In the aftermath, Aerinia used greater restoration to revive Urist and the group scavenged Rexskezzen's hoard, discovering several strange items as well as the crystal, which Urist identified as a soul trap containing an unknown individual's soul. The party then spent the night resting in the lair, before reviving Ari.

Session 31 - 09/05/22

29th of Sestern - 29th of Nullbren, 1812CE - Sunnmore, Kalmar Province

Returning to the capital as heroes of Lysaker, the group settled into downtime. Vyaran, having received strange dreams from the Willow Man, began meditation by a large willow tree she grew in the gardens of Briarwood Manor.
