The Kingdom

Magic is outlawed - the practice of it, the people associated with it, even the mention of it causes problems. The problem, though, is that magic is unavoidable. There are always people with magic from the day they are born. To make things worse for those people - let's call them Magi - there's one very specific feature known about them: they are left-handed. The worse penalty for Magic is death, though some would find that kinder than being casted out of their home and society for practicing.   So why not stop practicing?   They can't. No matter how hard a Mage (surprise! that's the singular of Magi!) tries, magic is going to seep out of them anyway.   The Kingdom has outlawed magic for centuries - 384 years, in fact, as denoted by the year system. NE has to stand for something, after all, and that is New Era. The Era after Magi attempted to usurp the Royal Family and take over, leaving the King no choice but to ban magic, Magi, and anyone associated with it. (Ban is used lightly here. The first decade of the New Era was incredibly bloody. But nobody talks about that or even remembers it.)
