History of The Katador Veil
Katador; a brief history:
Old Empires: 415WP - 12, 408WP
First founded by pilgrims from surrounding realms in 415WP (World pilgrimage). This age is referred to as the Old Empires, and lasted many millenia.
Urdr Invasion & Union of Katador: 12, 383WP
Urdr (Neighbouring continent) had slowly become rivals with Katador over the years. This culminated in them Invading Katador in 12, 383WP. Katador was forced to unify under 1 rule to defeat them. This event was the catalyst for Katador’s New Age.
New Age: 12, 408WP - present
Great dispute/Four Kingdoms: 12, 408WP
A brief period of 25 years of peace ensued after the invasion. However, the realm split once more into separate kingdoms, as political tensions sprung up and the realm couldn’t be maintained effectively. Katador split into 4 kingdoms; the North, South, East, and West expanses after a devastating civil war.
The Western Expanse fell in 12, 528WP, as a result of severe natural disaster. They were leading pioneers in magical technology, and it’s estimated that their fall set Katador’s advancements back by thousands of years.
The Heaven Scar: Saint Bilfurg & Drogen: 12, 738WP
Saint Bilfurg and Drogen were 2 mighty warriors called Mythics. They were akin to larger-than life heroes of the people. Not much is known about them, or when they arrived in Katador, as they have occasionally popped up throughout the history of the country. One thing is known about the 2 warriors though… they possessed god-like gifts. Saint Bilfurg possessed an incredible talent for armour making, whereas Drogen’s expertise was in weapon-making. One day, 250 years ago (12, 738WP), Drogen waged war on Saint Bilfurg and went on a rampage, his reasoning unknown. It was the most spectacular battle the realm had seen in its history. Both Bilfurg and Drogen killed each other in their mighty dispute, leaving a lasting impact on Katador.
Besides the thousands of lives Drogen took away in his rampage, a deep valley at the top of the Central Expanse is all that remains of the clash between the two Mythics, a reminder of their god-like power. Some say an equal scar was left on the heavens the day they waged war.
Present day: 12, 988WP. The cusp of the 14th millenia
Aside from small internal disputes, Katador is currently free from foreign and civil threats. It functions as 3 kingdoms and a central free-state.
Adonyre Alliance (Northern expanse):
A union between 2 states under the jurisdiction of Luthor Nimrod. He is widely considered a generous king, who has brought success to his kingdom. Adonyre is recognised for its advanced architectural engineering and magical advancements.
Mundlen (Eastern Expanse):
A largely solitary and independent kingdom under the jurisdiction of Saúl Locadio. The region is somewhat secretive and under a very strict ruling. Many of Mundlen’s citizens do not hold Locadio in high regard and have criticised him for his extreme approach to ruling, however most still support him because of the success and safety he has brought to the kingdom. Whilst they are not leaders in magical advancement, Mundlen dominates in sheer martial power, possessing by far the largest military sector and budget in Katador.
The Southbody (Southern Expanse):
A union between 3 states under the jurisdiction of Guille Mephisten. The Southbody is generally neutral in political matters. The Southbody are the lead exporters of crops & other goods, and known for their remarkable knowledge on medicines.
Central Expanse (Free-state):
An ungoverned region situated throughout the centre of the realm. It's mostly habited by farming groups, nomadic tribes, small towns, & bandits. Many of the current inhabitants of the Central Expanse are descendants of the Western Expanse’s survivors.
Western expanse (Hate Country):
A barren and swampy expanse is all that remains of the great Western kingdom. Colloquially referred to as Hate Country for its harsh conditions, primal species, & lethal fallout that has prevented any from living there. Little to none try their luck at living in Hate Country.
