Loc Mahon

Loc Mahon was a dedicated holy warrior, who sought to rescue those who were suffering and set free those who were enchained. He was also a man of few words, who seldom spoke unless spoken to, except when it came to Avandra. Any time someone asked about his past, the paladin shrugged it off as unimportant or deflected the subject onto something else, usually his goddess's teachings. It became gradually more and more apparent that he was hiding something--but wasn't everyone? Some only more skillfully than others.   A little history was shared about his youth around the campfire one night on the road. Loc grew up as a cowboy a ways north of Everwatch, in the verdant foothills of The Spine, where he drove and tended his family's herd of cattle with his father and two younger brothers. They'd return home from a drive to his mother and sisters and feast on the "best beef north o' Havensport." He spoke with wistful nostalgia of those times, with a big, dopey grin on his face, but when asked why he left them, Loc gave a gruff dismissal of the question and drew quiet once more.   He had served as a militiaman for six years, though where he served he refused to say. In fact, he refused to talk much on that part of his life at all, save for how the training he received and the experience he gained prepared him for his current work as a mercenary. He spoke freely on that particular subject, a task which he had been employed in for only a couple months before The Iron Suns got hold of him. He would travel from town to town, offering his service as bodyguard or escort for trade caravans, once teaming up with a few other sellswords to clear out a den of bandits. It was good enough money to keep him going, and he was happy to help people.   In a shady tavern with his new ally Bryth, Loc Mahon had been goaded into an angry rant about torture, his passions fueled by his own experiences. For months, he said, he was made to suffer terribly, with the tearing out of his hair, the removal of his nails, and the flaying of-- The paladin, upon remembering that he was speaking with a delicate woman, too late managed to curtail the gruesome details. But the question remained as to why he was tortured, and if it was so terrible, how was it he bore no scars? At least no physical ones.   Avandra, however, and her teachings were by far the most common and important topics for the paladin to speak on. He admitted he had only entered her service a few months before joining The Suns, and still had much to learn of her doctrine, but the passion and fervor he displayed was like that of a child sharing some new discovery, bright-eyed and overjoyed. Avandra would break the chains of oppressors and set free the victims of tyranny, and it was Loc's life goal to be her sword to that end. He would rescue others, "just as she rescued me."
