The Great Dunes

Created by

The landscape of The Dunes is a vast desert devoid of life, save for sparse inhabited cities, towns, and openings into damp tunnels. 'the Maws' as the tunnels are called are named such due to their depth and the tendency of the wind to cause them to make a terrifying bellow. The Maws were carved out by an ancient sand-worm, long dead. Most of the population of this world are sustained by farming outcroppings of ice, pushed out from the frozen core of the planet, as few who venture for more than a day from the Frozen Tors ever return, claimed by the ever-shifting sands.   Much of the history of this world is unknown to the inhabitants, as many centuries before the current day a great conquest was carried out by the military of the largest city - Glass Peak - and caused most of the great libraries to be destroyed in siege, or the settlements they resided in to become condemned as all those that once inhabited these places were killed in battle or taken as slaves for The Glass Peak. The few that remembered soon died, without passing on their knowledge, as all talk of the past was decreed treason against the crown-general of The Glass Peak. To the people of The Great dunes, the only glimpse into the past they have comes in the form of relics that reveal themselves as the dunes shift.   The population of The Dunes is diverse but split into their own factions, leading to infighting and civil wars. Political power struggles that all aim to have control over the Ancient capital - the city of the Glass Peak.
