Night of Dark-Blood

The Night of Dark-Blood is the common name for the siege of the Dark-Blood compound in the Northern Wilds. A coalition of united forces from throughout the Wilds banded together to end the Dark-Blood's supremacy of the area.   Though the fighting was long, and both sides endured heavy casualties, the Dark-Bloods were ultimately eradicated. There was, however, one survivor: the youngest of the clan, who ran away before the siege began and continues on as the last surviving Dark-Blood.

The Conflict

Prelude

The siege began as a whisper. The Dark-Bloods had known for a time that violence might be coming, but one late night, before midnight, a trusted runner burst through the compound gates. Forces from throughout the Wilds were on their way.

Deployment

Outside of the high walls of the Dark-Blood compound, the Wilder Coalition amassed in quiet, setting up their paltry siege weapons and preparing ammunition. The few druids of the Wilds that were convinced to help, perhaps the only ones who could hope to match the Dark-Bloods magic, began their circles. The Dark-Bloods on the other side, tired and caught off guard, tried to gather whatever defenses they could before the night began.

Battlefield

The siege began outside the walls, but quickly moved inside the compound. The bulk of the fighting took place in the main courtyard, and once the tides turned against the Dark-Bloods, the Wilder Coalition quickly swept into the rest of the compound.

Conditions

Dark, in the middle of the night, and cold, as it was the dead of winter. Snow had begun to fall, slowly at first, but as the fighting subsided, a blizzard quickly buried the evidence.

The Engagement

It wasn't long before the siege began, and it wasn't long before the walls of the compound were brought down. Enormous roots, galvanized by the druid's magic to pierce the protective barriers of the Dark-Bloods, erupted from the ground, whipping in great lashes against the walls. A makeshift battering ram pummeled the gate as the Dark-Blood archers rained arrows down.   Once the walls began to fall and the gate crashed to the ground, the fighting moved inside. Dark-Blood warriors threw themselves at the onslaught, dying quickly against the waves of Wilders. The siege would have ended quickly if it wasn't for the quick thinking of Ferrah Dark-Blood, who, with her most trusted magicians, summoned a terrible fiend to fight back against the Wilders.   The fiend slaughtered most of the invaders, but as they began to pull back, the Ferrah Dark-Blood's hold over the beast broke. The fiend, enraged, turned on the Dark-Bloods, finishing them off and demolishing the compound. The Wilder Coalition had long departed, and all anyone could see from the distance was the fire and the smoke rising into the sky.
