Snail Stew with Radish Pulp from the Shadow Woodlands

Earthy and nutritious, a favorite in the de Barro clan.

Snail Stew with Radish Pulp from the Shadow Woodlands

Snail stew with radish pulp is one of the most popular meals in the de Barro clan homestead. The slate and gravely ground in the Shadow Woodlands makes growing many vegetables difficult. Snails and radishes are two of the only plentiful items in the remote area the de Barro's call home.    Dishes vary from home to come and based on who is cooking and what is added. It can be spicy or earthy, but always savory.    Berta de Barro was famously known for inventing the dish, while her younger sister Aelis, was famously known for nearly making the dish inedible.    Snail stew is mostly eaten in the winter, when other food is less plentiful.

Characteristics:

Made From: Garden snails, slate snails, and other snails and radishes.    Popular Additions: Peppers, parsley, root vegetables, edible flowers, mushrooms, moss (during lean times), and onions   Eaten: The Shadow Woodlands (members of the de Barro clans who have left only sometimes make this meal, since it reminds them of lean times.)   Fun Fact: de Barro's first wife from Ecror loved radishes and craved them when she was pregnant. After a journey to Ecror, de Barro planted the vegetables and found they did well in the rocky soil.   Created By: Berta de Barro   Grown In: Ecror, The Shadow Woodlands, and later different parts of Ludo after times of drought. (Though most Ludovian children hate them)

The Golden Apple and Snail Stew with Radish Pulp

These radishes are first planted in Ludo by de Barro for his wife. From there, all of his daughters grow up eating the radishes until Berta creates the recipe.    It is only really enjoyed by the de Barro clan, but many travelers through the woods have been saved from starvation by finding clusters of the hot vegetable and snails and creating their own versions of the stew.    Though not many travelers have gone deep enough into the woods rot find the de Barros, those that do are given a bowl to regain their strength and nourish their bodies before they continue their travels.

Apple Characteristics:

There are no known characteristics related to the golden apple, apart from the first radishes were planted in Ludo due to de Barro.    It is possible that the apple's magic made it easier for the vegetable to thrive in the rocky ground, but de Barro credits its thriving with his diligence and his daughters' natural green thumb.
