Shadow Woodlands Red Fox

The cutest wee bonded creatures in all the woodlands

The Shadow Woodlands Setter Red Fox

The Shadow Woodlands Setter Red Fox is a subspecies of red fox that is rarely found in the Shadow Woodlands. They are closely related to their red fox cousins despite having magical abilities from the Golden Apple.   Setter red foxes tend to choose one person as their own and becomes their constant companion. They offer friendship, protection, and information. They are often sent away from their human to protect the Shadow Woodlands, the pale orchard, and the last Golden Apple.   They are cleanly in tune with the apple and its magic, so they can tell when they come across chosen people. They can also sneak information back and further between their chosen humans, sometimes even from miles away.   They are fiercely loyal but can be very silly, destructive, and moody from one moment to the next.

Characteristics:

Family Size: Kits are normally born 2-3 at a time.   Favorite Foods: They love greens, berries, and fresh meats, but their favorite snacks tend to be whatever their human is currently eating.   Vulnerabilities: Like their regular cousins, they are vulnerable to extreme weather, lack of food and water, and danger from large predators. Though they are very clever and resourceful and able to help themselves more or less.   Range: They live in the northern parts of the Shadow Woodlands, but can sometimes be spotted in the central parts of the wood.   Habitat: They live deep in the Shadow Woodlands and are rarely seen by outsiders.   Features: They have reddish fur that turns grey in the winter, with grey tips on their ears and tail.   Personalty: These foxes are very silly, curious, and can be very "talkative" with humans they trust   Mythology: Due to their long relationship with the de Barro clan and the golden apple, they have become myth-like creatures for the Ludovians. If spotted in the outskirts of the woods, they are treated with suspicion and as harbingers of witches or doom.   Religion: The Daughters of the Seven Gods consider them benevolent spirits and as a sign that one of the seven gods is near them.

The Golden Apple and Setter Red Foxes

Andras de Barro has the first setter fox as a pet when he discovers the 2nd golden apple. It begins the bond between the foxes and the de Barro clan.   They are fiercely lowly to the daughters of Andras and in the centuries have become guardians of the Shadow Woodlands and the last Golden Apple.

Apple Characteristics:

Magic Strength: They are closely bonded with their chosen person, to the point where they can be sent on missions and still communicate with their person from miles away.   Magic Weakness: They are not immune to aging or illness like their humans are, though they have a longer life span than their fox cousins.   Magic Quirks: They are far more intuitive, clever, resourceful, unfortunately sillier than their regular red fox cousins.
