The Rule of Flitter

The Rule of Flitter is a poorly understood cognitive manifestation of the Shola/Orphelian power. It states that anyone who has declared another as family cannot physically harm that person in any way, except through accident or inaction. The rule does not physically prevent actions, but rather prevents the formation of destructive, conspiratorial, or death wish thoughts towards one they have identified as family. This family distinction does not apply to natural family members automatically, and must be a specific destinction made verbally (although it can be done in private). Once done, the individual can only break their declaration of family (and therefore harm the individual) via direct revokation verbally spoken towards the individual. They do not need to be conscious for the revokation to stick, but they must be physically present.

It is thought that in taking on some of the powers of the gods through their fetal drip, certain aspects of their regulation have been enforced upon the mortal mind. This is further evidenced when examining native Chorn populations who have no such concept.

The rule of Flitter provides significant assurance and trust between bonded family, and is often used by those in power to showcase their promises. It is important to note though, that a declaration does not prevent non-physical harm. A politician could still, for example, slander an opponent or have them jailed as long as their is not physical damage infered from the order.
