The Keepers

The Keepers are a non-sentient race of mold-like organisms who inhabit the planet Belogog. The Keepers are named for their ability to rapidly expand upon a landmass and keep troves of energy stored within. They have the appearance of black mold, but expand much more rapidly so that their progress can be monitored in real time and measured in meters per minute.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Keepers are multicellular organisms, but being mold-akin they appear as pulsating black slime which washes over the land searching for food to fufill its unending desire to grow. Having adapted to Belogogs mupah, The Keepers have no sensory organs and merely roll over their food to consume it through their cellular membrane. For this to occur, The Keeper's dividing membrane must be extraordinarily thin which leaves it open to damage from phyisical attacks or even weather events. As the mupah falls it plunges directly throught The Keepers it hits and to the ground before they quickly regrow and absorb the vast food reserves. Though The Keepers appear slimy they are actually rough to the tough, creating small hook-spores which easily attach to almost any surface. These hook-spores are corrosive to metal, making it difficult to containt outbreaks. They are capable of breaking down and consuming all known organic matter.

Growth Rate & Stages

The Keepers are in a constant state of growth, spreading through sporical hooks which dig into organic material and quickly birth fully formed adults. Their ability to spread through liquid and air makes them very capable at inhabiting the unexpected. If, for example, a single Keeper hook made it onto a passing ship, it could eat into the interior and then survive a trip to another world. If such a ship landed it would risk massive infection which would likely never be contained. Its for this reason primarily that all (and we mean all) ships are designed with an internal detonator. The Keepers are easily destroyed by fire, a weakness which the Belogor must constantly use to keep them at bay.
