William's Report

What follows is a soldier's survey of every world he expected humans to go to within one portal-jump of Nordic Frog Beach.   NORDIC FROG BEACH   Nordic Frog Beach is humanity's new home. It is a temperate, oceanic world with significant native amphibious life.   Resources: A weed called pirinci grows here in significant quantities. Pirinci is difficult to cultivate, but it also grows easily and provides significant nutrition. Undersea alien ruins have been lightly explored and could provide significant cultural discoveries.   Dangers: The open ocean has been shown to host colossal aquatic predators. The high continental mountains provide habitat for the Nordic Winged Eel, an acid-spitting triphibious predator. The planet's arctic regions grow cold enough to kill unprotected humans.     TANDOORI   Tandoori is a harsh desert planet that hosts several small human settlements.   Resources: A Maeglin device known as Crucible Beta lies here. The Crucible was designed to influence the environment of the entire planet, although its mechanism is poorly-understood. Tandoori also grows a calcified tree that produces a fruit which tastes like jerky.   Dangers: The dunes here conceal massive predatory wurms, and vulture-like scavengers large enough to kill individual humans fly in flocks. During the day, the temperature can rise to 80 °C (176 °F), hot enough to bake unprotected humans' brains.     GREENCIRCUIT   Greencircuit is a life-bearing world. Native life here has a strange relationship with electromagnetism, and it hasn't been extensively explored.   Resources: Greencircuit could be a treasure trove of biological information if researchers were sent to analyze life here. However, modern scientific equipment can't be used here due to the difficulty of using electronic devices.   Dangers: The atmosphere of Greencircuit is entirely water vapor and carbon dioxide, leaving humans without breathing apparatus to suffocate. In addition, the plantlife here is both extremely verdant and electrophagic. That is, it eats electricity. Electronic devices do not function on Greencircuit.     TREDERRA   Trederra is a world with a dead civilization. It seems they industrialized themselves into oblivion, and then went to war and destroyed one another. Automated war machines still roam the wreckage.   Resources: Ancient weapons and technology can be looted from here. It seems the tech level is similar to humans' in the year 2100, but some unique innovations have been spotted.   Dangers: The ruins are filled with deadly automated killing machines left behind by the destroyed civilization. The machines are difficult to hack due to their alien programming and kill all living things on sight.     STORMWORLD   Stormworld is a mountainous, cold, rainy world in the habitable range. It hosts an Anansi research colony and is plagued by violent lightning storms.   Resources: The Anansi here are friendly to humans. Their research focuses on practical applications of weather control, using this planet's extreme weather as a sort of force amplifier. The wind and lightning could potentially provide a significant amount of energy to colonists.   Dangers: The weather can be extremely violent, and can turn from passive to dangerous in moments. Buildings here must be strongly secured due to the constant elemental assault, meaning camping is inadvisable. In addition, bandits tend to make their lairs in mountain caves here.     S.E.E.L.   Scrud Eats Everything Land is a Dyson sphere left behind by the Maeglin to deposit technology and life. It is unimaginably large. For hundreds of thousands of miles in every direction from the portal, S.E.E.L. is a dense jungle.   Resources: S.E.E.L. is a treasure trove of ancient Maeglin technology and potential biological research. It is said the Maeglin used this planet as a stash point for every genetic code they found valuable and all technology they wanted preserved.   Dangers: The jungle that surrounds the portal has dangerous wildlife. In addition, the planet is outfitted with an orbital defense system that shoots down all vessels attempting to enter orbit. Vast distances separate locations on this planet, requiring long transit times or extremely fast vehicles. Life here is not edible, and travelers must bring their own supplies.

Purpose

To provide the humans of Nordic Frog Beach a guide to the local dangers of the Maeglin Gate Network. Each of these destinations can be reached through only one portal jump.
