Sheol

A world of barren ice. The gravity (0.89G) is slightly lower than standard, due to the relatively lower mass of the planet for its size. Plants can only survive in the equatorial tundra zone of the planet and are mostly lichens and shrubbery. The fauna of Sheol are all seem to descend from a common ancestor with similar genetic markers occuring between radically different phenotypes.   Sheol lies at the very edge of the habitable zone for its star. Its rotation it so quick that a day/night cycle occurs every 4 hours. Sheol has 3 climate zones, the equatorial tundra, the arctic deserts and the polar ice caps. There are no surface oceans on Sheol, liquid water is found underground as hot springs and is the main source of water for the small amount of plant life on the planet.

Geography

The north and south poles are capped with massive glaciers. The arctic deserts are a mix of barren rock and snow, with deep crags, hills and mountains with occasional areas of plant growth where a thermal hot spring has surfaced. The equatorial tundra is generally flat and has the greatest concentration of hot springs.

Fauna & Flora

Plant life is generally limited to lichens and occasional shrubbery. Around the largest hot springs are small concentrations of conifer trees.   The animal life on Sheol are variations of one unique animal tree. They are refered to as the Akrid. See the entry for Akrid under the Fauna (Sheol) category for more details.

Natural Resources

Sheol's only true appeal is that it is technically a habitable planet by humans without the need for specialized equipment for breathing. Because of this and the fact that Sheol's system is out of the way from frequently used Drill Routes makes Sheol the perfect place for pirates to lay low after collecting a score. Moderate amounts of useful minerals lay underground and below the ice caps but the hostility of the native Akrid makes it a fruitless endeavor by all but the most desperate or foolish.
