Serimos IV

Serimos IV is the homeworld of the Salamandra, which is the fourth planet that orbits the star Serimos. It is a world of extensive tropical rainforests, complex and interwoven river-ways, and frequent rainstorms that rise nearly to the level of hurricanes.

Geography

The surface of Serimos IV is primarily taken up with large, sprawling tropical rainforests threaded with a multitude of lakes, rivers and small inland seas. The north and south poles lack ice coverage, though they see extensive snowfall in winter months and are primarily taken up by taiga forest and tundra.

Ecosystem

Though it is slightly smaller than Old Earth, Serimos IV has a near equal amount of water resulting in an extensive hydrosphere on the planet which allowed for its equivalent of amphibians to range and develop more extensively and efficiently than on Earth.

Localized Phenomena

Serimos IV has a high degree of plate tectonics occurring at all times, which causes a large amount of volcanic eruptions on a regular basis. This constant vulcanism causes large amounts of useful minerals to be spread across the surface of the planet, enriching the soil and causing rampant growth of flora to the point of overrunning the planet.

Fauna & Flora

Serimos IV lacks the equivalent of mammals as the evolutionary pressures that caused the evolution of mammals are lacking. Primarily the Serimosian equivalent of arthropods and amphibians are the dominant clades on the planet with reptiles occupying some niches.

Due to the high degree of vulcanism on Serimos IV plants have evolved to grow as rapidly as possible, with a full grown forest capable of re-foresting an area devastated by a volcanic eruption in a matter of weeks. The Serimosian equivalent of grass does not exist, being instead low lying fern cover similar to the Jurassic period of the Mesozoic Era on Old Earth.

Natural Resources

Serimos IV is noted for having widespread deposits of Orichalcum, which make up the largest raw resource export from the planet.
Other significant natural resources include: Wood and lumber products, Food stuffs, and Agricultural products.

Tourism

The vast majority of recreational visitors to Serimos IV are there for "Survivalcraft" camping, dropping into the vast wilderness between Salamadra cities and then making their way back to civilization.
