The Lawcrafter

The Cosmic Knight, the Father of Society, the Wise and Eternal Magistrate

His righteous fury knows no bounds, and none know conviction deeper than the priests of the Lawcrafter. As the father of civilization and the protector of truth and justice, the Lawcrafter has tasked himself with defending these most sacred virtues, often by way of the blade. Expansive empires have never done well for the Free Kingdoms, and as such, the Lawcrafter is not particularly well-liked among the common people (although, he remains fairly popular with the nobility). Even still, humble soldiers and pioneers alike continue to worship him, as long as they wish to bring order to the seemingly untamable Free Kingdoms. His priests are militant and disciplined, and the Church of the Lawcrafter has continuously been one of the most powerful forces in the Free Kingdoms, despite their general lack of popularity. But for his stern demeanor, the Lawcrafter stands against the tide of evil, and many of his priests exemplify the virtues of courage, honor, and goodness as much as they are rigid and unyielding.

Divine Domains

  • The Lawcrafter represents the law and justice, and serves as the god of civilization and society. He is also associated with invention, progress, and modernity.
  • Finally, the Lawcrafter is the patron of the aristocracy and knights. He is worshiped by those with noble and chivalrous intentions.
  • Clerics of the Lawcrafter might choose from the Forge, Life, Light, or Knowledge domains, and the Oath of the Crown or the Oath of Devotion would be available to his paladins. The Oath of Vengeance might alternatively be favored by paladins who represent punitive justice.

Holy Books & Codes

  • The faithful of the Lawcrafter maintain fairly lengthy texts known as the Divine Laws of Man. They are organized and referred to by volume.
  • Each volume grows more advanced, with the later books detailing magical rituals. Most casual worshipers read only Volume I. As such, lay-priests of the Lawcrafter are called upon directly to advise people.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

  • The primary symbol of the Lawcrafter is a longsword, its blade pointed down. Its hilt serves as the axis of a pair of scales. The scales can be used by themselves as a holy symbol, but many priests wield swords.
  • Yellow and white are connected to the Lawcrafter, and bits of gold, ivory, and pearl sometimes adorn holy symbols and church walls.

Tenets of Faith

  • The Word of Law forms the basis of Civil Society. It exists for the Good of Man. Obey its Letter, do not allow it to be Exploited or Broken, and Respect figures of Authority.
  • The Law is the great Equalizer and Unifier. In the Eyes of the Law, the Peasant is made a Lord, and the power of the Individual pales to the strength of the Community.
  • Tame the Wild Places of the world, bring Order where there is Chaos, and uphold the spirit of Invention.
