The Clockwork Nirvana

The Clockwork Nirvana is the plane of existence best-associated with Cosmic Law. It is an extremely reasoned and ordered plane, and as its name implies, is composed of mechanical appendages and machinery. Its only permanent inhabitants are constructs.
Lay of the Land
  • A Mechanical World: The Nirvana is composed entirely of huge, interlocking cogs and gears, some the size of kingdoms, all in service of a machine so complex its true purpose is a mystery even to the gods.
  • Cosmic Order: The Clockwork Nirvana represents the cosmic force of Law, where every action is planned and calculated, and passion, imagination, and chance are very literally nonexistent.
Dangers to Dare
  • Modrons: The mechanical custodians of the Plane are rarely hostile – unless they view something as a threat to the machine. And threats to the machine must be eliminated. They maintain a society of strict hierarchy, based on the amount of tasks a modron is capable of performing.
  • Inevitables: Inevitables police the laws of reality; when wizards violate time and space to a great enough degree, the clockwork giants are there to eliminate them. Their primary function is to enforce the rules of contracts and moderate negotiations between mortals and magical entities like gods or magical patrons. They resemble modrons on steroids.
  • Cosmic Assimilation: Like a great steel brain, the Nirvana imposes its will on visitors to the plane, stripping away their sense of self, until they become fully mindless automatons.
  • Anti-Magic: The consciousness of the plane has deemed most magic too chaotic to even exist, and the realm slowly works to disenchant magic items and strip spell-casters of their power, causing their spells to occasionally fail.
Folk & Friendship
  • Prime-1: The highest-ranking modron at any given time bears this title. His power is slightly less-than a demigod’s, but if he is ever destroyed, the next most-powerful modron takes his place, ensuring the legacy of Prime-1 for eternity.
  • Prosecutors & Defendants: Creatures are occasionally summoned to the Clockwork Nirvana as though it were some kind of inter-dimensional courtroom. But it is no ordinary court -- only powerful arch-wizards, contract-brokering devils, and other creatures who deal with cosmic negotiations would be represented here. Inevitables serve as judge, jury, and executioner.
