Lord Darius Barinium the Elder, Lord of Baelisport

Lord Darius Sveric Barinium

Darius Barinium was born on a hot summer day in 435 AF to Lord Sveric and Lady Ladonna Barinium, he is the eldest of 5 children. Darius Barinium was a cruel boy with a hot temper and always found a way to control and manipulate his friends into doing whatever he wished for them to do. Because of his father's position as Lord of Baelisport, Darius received the best military education available. He has been trained to swordfight since he was walking, and he has been trained in military tactics since he was talking. Lord and Lady Barinium wished that Darius would grow to lead the greatest army the realm has ever known, one that would rival the mighty Lord Baelzeph and earn Darius a place in the halls of the Gods. Little did they know what it would cost them.

The Great Revolt of Farthington, 448 AF

When Darius was 13, he and his father traveled with the Royal Guard of Baelzeph to the place of his birth, Farthington. The trade routes from Farthington to Cullingport were falling under constant attacks by rebels and Lord Sveric Barinium made sure that he was personally there when his army engaged with the dissenters. This was the first true military engagement that Darius had gone on and he was desperate to prove himself to both his father and the seasoned warriors that traveled with them. The Royal Guard of Baelzeph is an elite company of the strongest men and women in Baelisport, 150 warriors strong and could stand firm against forces triple their size. When they were called into a mission, Darius knew that his father wanted to either make a firm statement of power or there was serious danger facing them. This band of rebels, he knew, was certainly the former of the two.   When the Royal Guard arrived in Farthington, they assembled in the Baron's courtyard while Darius, Lord Sveric Barinium, and Baron Diccon prepared their war plan on the third level of the Baron's quarters. Through the open window, Darius could hear all manner of noise coming from the courtyard below. A group of angry protestors had gathered below and were shouting something about the food supply and their taxes.   "Come away from that window, son. We must get going." Lord Sveric spoke to him firmly, but Darius had never experienced the real political world. From his view as a child, everyone loved his father and his family could do no wrong. Darius looked back from the window to his father right when a rebel threw a blazebottle straight at the open window, slamming the frame of the window and splashing flaming oil onto the head of Darius, as well as igniting a good portion of the wall next to him.   Absolute chaos ensued. The Royal Guard in the courtyard turned on the crowd and began slicing them down as flame engulfed the Baron's quarters. Darius lost consciousness shortly thereafter and awoke in the infirmary three days later, his throat feeling as if he had swallowed a thousand flaming swords and his head bandaged down past his neck and to his shoulders. No one was there to greet him when he awoke. The heir was alone, damaged, and disgraced.   His first battle left him with permanent burns on his scalp and neck, as well as severely damaged vocal cords, making his voice sound rough and gravely for the rest of his life. It wasn't until he was out of the infirmary and healed to the best of the physician's abilities that his family would speak with him. The way his family treated him never left his memory. And even though his training in battle and command continued, he never would forgive his parents for turning their back on him.

Parricide

One stormy evening in the spring of 459 AF, Darius Barinium entered his parents' chambers with two of his sworn guardsmen and murdered his father and mother while they slept. When the sun arose over Baelisport that next morning, Darius stood in the palace throne room and declared himself Lord over the city. The coronation of Lord Darius Barinium took place that afternoon.
