Have you ever heard a story so tragic that you feel sorry even for a villain? That's the legacy of Monder Faustus. He was born in Waterdeep and his parents were librarians. Even at a young age he was passionate with books and magic and sought to become a wizard. However he and his family soon discovered that he already possessed magical powers within him. Despite his father's limited fortune he managed to attend sorcerer classes in Baldur's Gate. By the age of 20 he had become a master of the mystic arts. His brother Vilor became a librarian as well to help their parents. Monder became so obsessed with magic and knowledge that he discovered some dark rituals about resurrection and archaic magic. During his studies in Baldur's Gate he met a young sorceress named Maria Delacort. He fell in love with her and so did her. They were so passionate for each other that they married within months from their first meeting. After some years his wife gave birth to 2 wonderful boys. For a while Monder forgot about his passion and dedicated his life to his family. They returned to Waterdeep shortly after and lived a full life. Maria found a job as a researcher for magic. However during some experiments with dark magic she accidentally summoned a lethal thunderstorm within her workspace, which killed her and her colleagues. When Monder found out his outburst of anger was immeasurable. He realized that his greatest passion was his worst enemy. So he vowed to find a way to rid magic of this world. Upon studying even darker and more sinister forms of magic he found out a manuscript, which contained another wizard's manifesto about destroying magic. All he needed was a ruby cursed by a Dragon and a golden wand to perform the ritual. Combining these 2 items would allow him to eliminate magic from everything and everyone. After spending countless nights trying to figure out where to find such items he had a revelation from the God Bane that showed him that a local would one day carry such a ruby and that a hidden treasure vault would contain the golden scepter he so viciously searched. So Monder Faustus put on a "mask" of a scholar and a member of the Council of Lords to find his treasure without ever being noticed.
