The Five Kingdoms

Year 498

Created by

Averlan is the eastern most kingdom. King's Haven is its capital and the largest port. The Archive and its Archivists act as a sort of religious order, with almost as much power as the king himself. Beyond the gates of the capital, and other similar cities, Averlan is mostly agricultural. The supernatural presence is much lesser here, and mainly focused in and around the capital. Bound by tradition and the Sight-blessed bloodline, the DeVain family are the capital's only warriors.   The Western Isles is a collection of islands in the middle of the Five Kingdoms. A large portion of the underground slave trade comes from the Western Isles, mainly because of the disconnected and weak government and economy. The people who live there tend to be completely isolated to the single island they were born on. Their skin tone ranges from a light brown to almost black. Here, the supernatural presence is dealt with through the village shamans.   The kingdom of Ruskar is the northern most kingdom. Much of it is just ice and vast forests, completely unexplored or inhabited. The people who survive on this frozen wasteland tend to live in nomadic tribes ruled over by a single chief. The only established city is also the only port in the entire kingdom, and is where the chiefs of all the various tribes meet once a year. Warriors gifted with the Sight, mostly women, form their own tribes to protect Ruskar from demons. Nelmere is a desert kingdom to the south. The central part of the kingdom is mostly endless sand dunes but some nomadic tribes still survive there. Several big cities lie along the central river of the kingdom as well as the coast. Each city has a lord but the kingdom itself has a king. Any child born here with the Sight is given to the academies to be trained as a legionnaire.   Nothing alive and good exists in the Yaar. It's thought to be the source of the tear in then veil between worlds where demons slip through. Though no one has ever traveled there, it's thought to be full of towering forests where the trees are so close together that nothing can be seen. Some of the darkness has even seeped across the Black Strait into the nearest Western Isles.
