Netting

Netting is a way to extract the energy from an energy crystal in a controlled and, for the most part, safe way. Netting consists of cracking the crystal and filling the caps with small sheets or nets of a conductive metal. Using nets was what gave the technique its name, but nowadays the sheets are more common since they're safer and delivers a steadier charge, even if it gives the crystal at large a smaller capacity. The crystal itself still looks like it has some sort of spider web or net in it, so the name has stuck. Regardless of the method, the nets purpose is to break the crystal off into sections that has a smaller capacity before getting ready to deliver the charge, and the net itself captures it before it explodes into a small lightning strike. The crystal still needs a small energy stream to start up, but once it has the net itself supplies the parts of the crystal that haven't yet reached capacity to build up. So depending on how close you've gotten each core of the crystal to its max capacity you can either have a crystal that gives a lot of its energy over a short period of time or a smaller amount but slowly over a large amount of time. Most machines use a combination, with both fast and slow depleting batteries powering different parts that have different energy requirements. The net is usally inderted into the crystals during mining to be able to release built up charges and make mining safer. By cracking the crystal you form the small paths where the net is inserted. This is done with a certain machine that creates a vaccum in the cracks. The net is then sucked into the cracks when the vaccum is released.
