The Fall of Syndicate Space

The story is set just over 100 years in the future. Earth is ruled by a federation of corporations called the Syndicate Trade Alliance. There is FTL travel via Slipspace but no FTL communications. Humanity is reaching for the stars and yet trouble on Earth and her colonies may mean conflict approaches. Meanwhile, has first contact been finally made with an intelligent alien species?
