War of the Dragon

The War of the Dragon was a conflict between the free people of the Everwuld against the forces of the tyrannical god Diavalo. Waged in secret between the Aasimar Alliance and the Iron Knives for nearly 50 years, the war spilled over into effecting the rest of the Wuld when the head of the Iron Knives, a Ghoul named Saiduque launched an attack on the small town of Greenest near the border of the Silvian Imperium; seeking the keystone that would release a powerful ally, Melephime, from its slumber. Saiduque gathered together different individuals from across the Wuld to further his plans. The elf scientist Tatsuya provided the knives with her monsters, Melephime the strength of a minor god, Amelia the knowledge of a pre-war construct, Globmabog the cunning of a goblin alchemist, and Nemissa the resources of an aasimar.   Fortunately, the attack on Greenest was noticed by a band of adventurers who would become the unlikely heroes of the war. Dr. Kemmler a necromancer most foul, a different Amelia model warforged, Lars a lowborn Kenku destined for greatness, Arthur Willoughby a talented alchemist, and Sonia an aasimar tech specialist.   Together these adventurers would thwart the efforts of the Iron Knives across the Wuld. First they were able to repel the attack on Greenest, driving back the dragon Chitertick and saving the town from utter devastation. Then they prevented Amelia from laying waste to Necropolis. They continued to track the Iron Knives through Simmsmout and to a ruin in the black marsh. There they bore witness to the ascension of Tatsuya into a lesser deity. From there they were cast into the plane of Torment and were lost for nearly a year.   When the heroes returned to the prime material plane, they discovered the Iron Knives had successfully orchestrated a war between the Elven Imperium and the Clockwork Empire. Continuing their goal of hunting the leaders of the Iron Knives, the heroes first saved the Aasimar Alliance from devastation by the blazing guns of Amelia. Then uncovered a conspiracy to destroy the dwarven kingdoms in Crystalis by Globmabog. Then they slew the great dragon Chittertick in his mountain fortress with the aid of the Chylthist. Then they captured Nemissa, turning her over to the Aasimar Alliance for her crimes. Lastly they worked with the lords of the Crossroads to defeat Melaphime and its army of undead only to discover they were too late and the plans of the Iron Knives had already born fruit and Diavalo had been raised. His grave in the ruins of Dunnsmouth being the staging ground for his invasion of the Wuld.   The heroes came to Dunnsmouth but where overwhelmed by the hordes of monsters until the Aasimar arrived and cleared a path through the mess of beholders and undead. Only then were they able to directly confront Diavalo and his remaining generals and against all odds were able to defeat him in his newly resurected state, calling upon the power of the Twins to finish off Diavalo once and for all.   The forces of the Knives were either slain or scattered to the winds after this devastating defeat. Though rumour has it, the lower levels of the nearby city of Simmsmout are still infested with the vile filth the raising of Diavalo attracted.
