Metaurgus

Metaurgus is an order of magic users who live in the Clockwork Empire. Persecuted and hunted like animals, the Metaurgus are a hardened bunch who work together to survive. Formally recognized as a terrorist group, Metaurgus are mages from all walks of life. From practicing wizards to natural born sourcerers, Metaurgus is for anyone suffering under the anti-magic laws of the Empire.
Based out of the labyrinth of the Works, Metaurgus work hard to sneak rogue mages through or out of the Empire. They are mostly a peaceful group, avoiding conflicts with Imperial forces, although they often have to fight for their lives against the Inquisitori. The primary objective of Metaurgus is to sneak mages out of the forced labor camp of the Boneyard and escort them to freedom in either the Celestial City or the Crossroads.
Metaurgus is operated by independent cells that all believe in their charismatic leader, a triton sourcerer by the name of Pantrough de Lafayette. Lafayette believes in equality for mages in opposition to the teachings of the Empire but does not believe they will change the Empire’s stance by force. He and the forces of Metaurgus have even worked to stop terrorist plots against the Empire orchestrated by other mages in an attempt to prove that not all mages are villains with mixed results.
Ultimately it seems that the goals of Metaurgus are never to be fully realized. For years the Empire has been cracking down on them, attempting to find, capture, or kill their members and put an end to their efforts to free fellow mages from slavery.
