Homebrew Rules for Firearms

Firearms are not new in the Everwuld. They were quite common before the Cataclysm. However the secret of their use is only newly rediscovered.   Most classes won't start with firearms proficiency. Talk to the gm about weather your character should start with firearms proficiency and it will be decided on a case by case basis.   Firearms act like other ranged weapons but with one distinct difference, due to the inaccuracy of them, you will not add your dex modifier to their damage unless otherwise specified by the firearm (some pre-war firearms may be accurate enough to circumvent this drawback).   Reloading: All firearms have a reloading feature of some kind. The reloading score will be written out like such: Reloading: 4. This means that four rounds can be fired before you must spend an attack or move action reloading. In the case of classes with multiattack, you can spend one of your attacks to reload.   Missfire: Not all weapons are as well designed as others. Some have a missfire score. Lets say you have a rifle with a missfire score of 6. This means if you roll a six or lower on your attack roll, your weapon missfires. This means the attack misses, and the weapon cannot be used again until you spend an action to try and repair it. To repair your firearm, you must make a successful Tinker’s Tools check (DC equal to 8 + misfire score). If your check fails, the weapon is broken and must be mended out of combat at a quarter of the cost of the firearm. Creatures who use a firearm without being proficient increase the weapon’s misfire score by 1.   Ammunition Types: there are more than one type of ammunition you can use in a firearm. These can change the effect of your attack. These include everything from explosive rounds, to rounds that mimic spell effects. In order to determine the DC for a spell effect round, add 8 + your proficiency modifier + your dexterity modifier. Use this same equation for determining the DC on ammunition like spread shot or flamethrowers.
