Elves

Elusive and powerful, the elves are one of the oldest races in the Everwilds. Elves are actually plants, with flesh made from a soft, wood like compound with chlorophyll like blood. Elves are separated into several groups. There are Utsukushi or high elves and who live at the heart of the Everglade, they are the stereotypical elitists, viewing themselves as being more pure and superior than all other races. Then there the wood elves or Sabanto, the common folk of the Everglades, wood elves are simple and humble people, working hard to maintain the ecology of the elven cities. Dark elves or Naimitsu were once the elite spies of the high elves, allowing themselves to be modified to fight better in total darkness, but recent events have forced them out of favor, and into the world of mercenary and thief work. Lastly, there are the Eladrin, elves touched by the power of the elvish god Midorine. These elves rule over the three elven houses of worker, warrior, and religious, serving on the elder council although their numbers are slowly dwindling. . .

Basic Information

Genetics and Reproduction

Elves do not procreate like most of the sentient species. Instead, they have a complex and extremely long life cycle. Elves grow in embryonic pods in the roots of Progenitor Trees, taking up to several decades to reach maturity and exit their seed like pod. They are born with the basics of language and the fundamentals of their 'purpose' ingrained in their minds but spend around a decade honing their skills at their cast's academy, or in the case of wartime, warrior cast elves are quickly armed and pressed into service. Elves will remain in this sexless form until death unless they undergo 'the change.' If an elf lives over 100 years and proves itself to be remarkable among its peers, it may be taken deep into the Everglade where it will undergo a ritual. This ritual ends with the flowers that bloom within its hair being pollinated with pollen taken from a Progenitor Tree. The elf will then scribe as much of its knowledge as possible for future generations, before taking root and growing into a Progenitor Tree itself.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Elves have a great craving for meat and most elves favor carnivourism.

The Sylvian Imperium
Created by the goddess Midorine, Elves first appeared as flowering plants the goddess used to decorate her gardens. As time passed, elves became more life like, and eventually became the bipedal creatures we know today. While mostly flesh-like, elves still maintain a few plant like traits, like their thick and sweet nectar like blood and their flowering hair.
