Montheus Castle Throne Room
The throne room of Montheus is an opulent and regal chamber, a symphony of grandeur and tradition. It is adorned with polished white stone columns, hanging braziers that cast a warm glow, and scarlet banners bearing the sigil of the Hackonson royal family. The terraced ceiling comes alive with artistic depictions of legends, while carved figures watch over the marble floor below. A pristine white rug guides visitors towards the magnificent throne, set upon a raised dais, flanked by pews for court nobles. Royal guards in resplendent armor stand sentry, and the room is graced with elegant touches like chandeliers, candles, and statuettes. This throne room serves as the heart of Montheus' power and tradition, a place where history and authority converge in a sensory experience like no other.
Design
Gleaming braziers hang from each of the fourteen alabaster columns, casting a warm and luminous glow throughout the majestic throne hall. On the opposite side of each column, scarlet banners are elegantly draped, displaying the regal emblem of the Hackonson royal family - a golden double axe and crown. The terraced ceiling boasts intricate artistic renditions of legendary tales, their forms dancing in the flickering light, while carved figures gaze down upon the marble floor of this resplendent chamber.
A pristine white rug divides the room from the entrance to the throne, providing a ceremonial pathway for those who seek an audience with the monarch. Flanking the rug, white pews adorned with gilded accents accommodate the court nobles during council sessions. Rectangular banners, embellished with luxurious tassels, decorate the walls. Illuminated by numerous lit tapers of varying sizes, these banners bestow a luminous radiance upon the statuettes of esteemed leaders and legendary figures beneath them.
Expansive windows, framed by draperies in the same regal red and gold hues as the banners, are intricately patterned and feature ornate tassels.
A grand throne crafted from pristine white stone commands the center, positioned beneath a magnificent chandelier and flanked by two unadorned seats for those closest to the reigning monarch. This raised platform, dominating the room, occasionally accommodates the Prime Minister when the sovereign is not present. Atop the throne, jeweled peacock feathers shimmer, and the sigil of the sword of Enther, the religious symbol of King Matheus, Hero of Enther, graces its pinnacle. Elaborate chiseled ships adorn each of the throne's elegant armrests. The cushions, swathed in soft gray velvet, bear the insignia of the reigning family woven into the fabric, their edges adorned with gilded fringes.
Stalls and mezzanines encircle the throne room, offering seating options for nobles who prefer not to occupy the court benches.
Entries
The grand entrance to the throne room is marked by imposing iron doors that directly face the elevated throne, serving as the starting point for the extensive white rug that stretches towards the base of the thrones.
Towards the rear of the throne room, there is a more modest entrance reserved for the monarch's use. This doorway provides access to the royal living quarters. Likewise, the mezzanines and stalls feature discreet entrances leading to different areas within the castle.
Every entrance is diligently secured by vigilant royal guards clad in the regal armor of the ruling house.
Sensory & Appearance
The moment you step through the towering iron doors, the atmosphere undergoes a dramatic transformation, immersing you in a world of grandeur and opulence. As the doors swing open, your eyes are immediately drawn to the breathtaking sight before you. The polished braziers suspended from the alabaster columns emit a warm, golden glow that bathes the entire hall in a soft, welcoming light. The red banners, adorned with the regal insignia of the Hackonson royal family, hang in stately elegance from the columns' reverse sides. Above, the terraced ceiling comes to life in the flickering light, with artistic depictions of legendary tales dancing gracefully. Carved figures, both regal and mythic, gaze down upon you from their lofty perches. The marble floor reflects the radiance, creating a shimmering pathway towards the thrones.
The ambient soundscape is one of hushed reverence. The soft, steady crackling of the braziers is the predominant sound, filling the air with a soothing, rhythmic melody. The occasional whisper of courtiers and nobles in attendance adds a faint undertone, creating an atmosphere of anticipation and respect. The rustle of fine clothing and the occasional murmur of conversation create a sense of occasion as you proceed further into the room.
The plush white rug beneath your feet is soft and inviting, contrasting with the cool, smooth texture of the marble floor. If you were to reach out, the alabaster columns, adorned with carved details, would feel cool and solid to the touch. As you move forward, the velvet-lined pews and their gilded accents offer a comfortable seating option for those in attendance.

Denizens
Outside of formal sessions, the throne room typically remains dormant, its grandeur preserved by diligent servants who ensure its regal ambiance endures. It is not uncommon to find these caretakers meticulously attending to the room, maintaining its splendor and pristine appearance. Occasionally, a member of the royal family or a resident of the castle may be seen occupying the benches or leisurely strolling along, admiring the artistry adorning the hall.
However, when the throne room is in session, a transformation occurs. The monarch assumes their rightful place atop the majestic throne, flanked by the Prime Minister and consort, who take their positions on either side upon the elevated dais platform.
At the base of the dais, resolute Royal Guards stand facing the orderly rows of benches where the court attendants sit. Along the periphery, attentive servants stand ready, prepared to execute any necessary instructions or requests.
