High Mother

A High Mother is the highest religious authority for a region or city that follows the The Word Of The Five . Each High Mother presides over multiple temples in a city or region. High Mothers are considered the "wives" of The One and are treated as extensions of the High Herald.

Responsibilities

The High Mothers are second only to the High Heralds in the Church's authority. Upon the death of a High Herald, they are required to travel to Mount Enther for the Sacred Choice, a meeting where they must unanimously elect the new leader of the Church. By law, they are prohibited from leaving the Sacred Choice until a new High Herald has been proclaimed. The High Herald is generally elected from within the ranks of the grand clerics, though not always. High Mothers are also required to travel to Montheus when the Mothers Meeting convenes, but otherwise remain where they are assigned. A High Mother has the right to invoke the Right of Annulment. A High Mother is always female. All High Mothers are addressed as "Your Holiness" or "My Holy Mother".
