I cannot believe I agreed to come out to this backwoods town. The locals have been treating some of the other loggers terribly, as if their being non-human makes them nothing more than dangerous criminals! Joag was even kicked out of the tavern before he ordered his first drink. I thought for sure a brawl was going to break out. At least the snow has melted, and the ground is not frozen.

I swear I saw a woman in the woods! The others think I am just lonely, but I know what I saw! I will need to keep an eye out for her again.

Her name is Tris. She is the most beautiful creature I have ever seen. She will not leave the forest; I have had to sneak away to her at night. We meet under this great tree and lay under the stars together. She tells me stories of the forest and the histories of what is no longer here. Never has anything made me feel so alive.

Tris convinced the others to go back to Everwell, but I begged her to let me stay. I have nothing to go back to, the only joy I have known has come from her. She has quickly become my world. The smile she gave me, I swear my heart almost gave out. And she honored me with a kiss. I would do anything to see her smile again.

The mayor will not give up. We saw him approach the camp looking for the other loggers. Tris had me keep out of sight, but she made herself known. She must have grown a whole head taller and her skin became dark and hard like a tree. Quickly a great beast stood before me where my love was a moment before. The mayor ran at the sight of her, but we know he will not stop. Tris says she has an idea to stop the town from coming near the forest again.
