Eguzkia Palace
The palace was a sight to behold. Not because it was large or ornate like many of the other palaces I've visited. No, Eguzkia Palace is quite small and simple for a King's home. But it's beautiful nonetheless. The decorations that are there, the archways and columns, are perfectly constructed. And the simplicity of the palace really allows the natural beauty of the trees and river to shine.
Rising up from the center of Erdicado is a tall, square, building characterized by the beautiful arcchways that line the covered paths wrapping around the first and second floors. Bastions topped with battlements stand sturdily at the four corners of the construction. Surrounding the building and it's courtyard is a tall wall that separates the building from the river flowing past. Palm trees sprout along either side of the wall, providing a splash of color against the light brown brick. Welcome to Eguzkia Palace, ceremonial home of the Divine Leader of Manudagos.
History
I am certain the Arieta family has devised a plot to dispose of me. I'm not just being paranoid, the evidence is clear. Becuase of this, I'm moving my family to an undisclosed location. Let the people believe I live in the palace, while I keep my family safe.
Eguzkia Palace was originally constructed 1221 by Divine Leader Rufino. Prior to construction, the royal family had been living in a large castle about ten miles from Erdicado. However, Rufino strongly believed in grand displays of power in the center of the city. With a new procession, banquet, or religious event happening almost every week, Rufino and his family needed somewhere to stay within the city itself. So he built a small palace to house his family and serve as the central point for many of his ceremonies.
The Palace was used in this manner for a couple hundred years, until Divine Leader Teodoro came along. In an effort to prevent assassination, Teodoro refused to stay in Eguzkia palace, and instead lived with his family in an ever-changing secret location. Only important public ceremonies were held in the palace, effectively making the palace the family's public home but not it's private one. Teodoro's son continued these practices when he became Divine Leader, and cemented them as a tradition for the royal family.
Important Ceremonies
This is a feast for you! We welcome you into our home to show you that, with our wealth and greatness, we can provide richly for you.
There are three types of events that commonly take place in Eguzkia Palace today. The first is important life events for the royal family. Things like marriages and coronations are public events, and therefore conducted in the palace. Royal women are even required to give birth within the palace, effectively forcing them to live in the palace for the last couple of months of their pregnancy. The second type of event conducted in Eguzkia Palace is executions. Manudagos believes that maintaining law and order is essential to safety and prosperity in the kingdom, so they take punishment seriously. While executions don't happen all the time, they are an important tool used to ensure compliance. Most executions are conducted publicly in Eguzkia's courtyard, to serve as a warning to those who refuse to follow Manudagan law. The final type of event is much more pleasant. All major holidays are celebrated in Eguzkia palace, the most important of which is the Day of the Rising Sun, a holiday designed to show off the might and wealth of Manudagos. In Eguzkia, the holiday starts with a parade of most of the military units and city guard within the city. The procession ends at Eguzkia Palace's courtyard, where the royal cleric tells the story of the anointing of the first Divine Leader to save Manudagos in the Dragon Wars. Several others also give speeches about the glory of Manudagos and its ruler, until the King himself stands up and tells his people about the current state of the nation and the glory it expects to win in the coming years. The day ends with The Feast of the People, an event where the King provides a feast for a thousand of the city's commoners in Eguzkia's throne room, showing that, with the immense wealth of the kingdom, even the common people are treated like nobility.

Author's Notes
This is a work in progress! I'm still planning on giving the article it's own cover art as well as drawing up the floor plan of the palace.
