Commune

An old Teleran ritual, Commune is considered by many summoners blessed with awareness of its existence as an indispensable tool for summoning. With it, a summoner can establish contact with a being in advance of actually summoning it. This holds the joint benefits of allowing the being to be made aware of its impending summoning and allowing the summoner to negotiate with drastically reduced risk of death.
  • Fulfillment: A circle of ashes is prepared, with an old runic symbol for the elemental ties of the being to be summoned inscribed inside. If the name of the specific being is known, it is written along the top of the interior, and any objects or parts of it are placed just above the circle. The summoner (or summoners) kneels at the bottom of the circle, where they perform a short, guttural chant.
  • Effect: The consciousness of the being to be summoned is contacted, allowing it to, if it wishes, project it into the circle to communicate with its prospective summoner. It must decide within thirty minutes before the effect fades, but the summoner is in no way made aware whether the target was unwilling or unable to answer the call. If it answers, a silhouetted version if it appears in the circle, which can communicate with the ritualist for up to one hour (though it can also opt to sever the link at any time).
  • Members Needed: 1+
  • Time Required: 1 hour
  • Variations: Some versions of the ritual include an offering to the being to be called, in which case it is also made aware of the offering before making its decision.
  • Requirements: Occult 80, Summon equal to the difficulty of summoning the creature in question -40. This difficulty can be further lowered by the rules for Summoning Modifiers and Groups of Summoners, but not Time Invested.
  • Cost: Equal to Bind cost for a being of the level in question.
