The Great City of Ona Lenora

Annual Feat Festival

Although I still have yet to write up the calander and work out how the year & time cycle works, 7/8 is the turn of the year festival.   Ona Lenora's Festival of Feats is a celebration that's paired with a holiday that is celebrated all day. By the time the Feat Festival begins, most people are already more than half in the bag. The Eve of Year's End is nothing more than an excuse for a proud people to celebrate the individual, not the culture.   The High Elves swear up and down that the festival is more of a celebration of achievement in order to usher in another year of thriving prosperity.

High Elf Society

With High Elves being so mighty on themselves, social standing aren't exactly dictated by a monitary value. High Elves see their own physical attributes, impressive feats of athleticism and moral accomplishments to be their moral measuring stick. as their code of ethics stems from their fragile self image. They follow a lawful good alignment as to not sully their public image. This puts a lot of pressure on each member of society.   Family Values are important, like in most Elven societies. The noble families are under much more pressure, as most of their affairs mingles with the interests and general business of the Royal Family. The conversation about putting the interests of blood family over royal family is a hotly debated topic among commoners. On one hand, making a decision that dishonours your family is a source of extreme shame. The crown believes not in execution, but banishment. That has been the main punishment for disobeying the Royal Famil. Having to flee the city or live in solitude in the Underdark, now that disgraces a family beyond a point you cannot come back from.   These people falter upon duality and cower behind the concept of circumstance. When asked if they would choose to help the individual or the many, their first option they pick involves shelling out counter-questions in order to buy themselves more time. Their morals are far too unstable and much too vague for them to make the real choices in life. Even when tasked with the assignment of deciding whether or not dying in combat is more honourable than to escape with their lives; they bring out the questions.

Social Structure

The King is dictated by the rule of royal bloodline. There has not been a change in rule since the cities' inception in year 100. The only person who can declare anyone outside the bloodline is he whom sits on the throne. Even then, whoever the king declares king is only an honorary member of history. The moment the next true heir or the royal family is ready to lead, he strips the false king of his throne.   The royal family is technically next in the line. In High Elven culture there is no such thing as close or distant reletives. If you shared blood with royalty, you had a claim to the royal lineage. There was quite a large family at all times, making keeping track of them all quite the mission.   Mages and Wizards make up the high council. Its not too unfamiliar a sight to dind scholars and philosophers sitting at the high table. Only the most notable and accomplished minds are allowed to sit at the council. This is a prestigue second only to being royalty.   The next in the social heirarchy comes in the form of military officials. Officers, generals, anyone with a high rank. Then comes the knights, then the cavelry, followed by the reast of the military units. Adventurers are seen to be just slightly less than the grunt military units. Even foreign adventurers fall into this notch on the social totem. Foreigners are not frowned upon, but they aren't allowed residence (save for those with an Elvish backgrouund).   Coming up next are the spellcasters who work in circles or operate on their own. Spellcasters are typically proficient as scholars and philosophers. Those that go to a college or university have a higher chance of reaching a higher standing.    Shopkeepers who can get a spot on the hightest tier of the city, you'll be set. This is the biggest honour as a keep. Everyone starts in the lower layers of the city, and through triumph and propesperity they can earn their way in. The lowest social class lives on the ground level of Ona Lenora. this is home to farmers, fishermen & foragers. Most woodland ethnicities of elves typically elect to live here on their own free will. For this reason, Woodland ethnicities are a general laughing stock.    Being as the city is a multi-layered construct, there is plenty of tunnels and inner infrastructure. Coming from that location, there is one more social class: the outcasts. This part of the city is called the Underdark.

The Creation Myth

Ona Lenora is a place that is considered to be the birthplace of the Noble Elf. This demi-god was said to construct Ona Lenora as a home to live in, shortly before he created the High Elves to populate it. The Noble personally ruled over his people. He lived long enough to be called The Old King. He allowed his people to venture beyond the walls and mingle with the budding civilizations. Thus the birth of the High Elves.

The Pantheon

Other demographixs of Elven races live freely with the numbers of High Elves. The Old King always encouraged race mixing. Most people of Ona Lenora worship the Old King as an Evlen God. They all acknowledge Daimonogog, the Lesser God of Nature as part of their pantheons.    Tge Followers of the Great Stag are a minority in the city. The three types of religious decor and flags you'll find in Ona Lenora belong to these three gods. The Followers are currently attempting to legitimize themselves as a political party.
