Orienal Range

Mountains Represent The Power Of Nature; Plains, The Love Of Nature

Geography

The Orienal Range is a geographic region of Ecumene, commonly defined as the steppe land that expands across the East of the continent of Oriens. The Suntouched Current, after snaking around the Ocagan Peninsula, begins to die here, not bringing much warmth or wet, resulting in the cold interior plains (which are, in large part, caused by the rainshadow of the Serento Mountains.   As steppe land, most of the region is flat, though there is a distinct ridge found near the North of the region. This land, in contrast to the steppe, is covered in taiga forest and is known for its tablelands and canyons. Aside from this ridge, the Orienal Range, in contrast to the rolling hills of Sahul's Great Steppe, is incredibly flat. The Caabar River is found within the region, flowing from its heart out into the World Ocean, and the Marcora and Subtamay Rivers are found in the far Southeast of the region.   As stated before, the Orienal Range is dominated by steppe land of a cold arid climate. Summers are warm or sometimes even hot, whereas Winters are quite cold. All seasons are quite dry, making the fertile river valleys and small temperate zones across the Range quite valuable to the Reynards who live here. Weather phenomena in general here are very mild, the only really exceptional thing being the general lack of rainfall for most of the year.

Fauna & Flora

Many species have been able to carve out niches for themselves within the Orienal Range, such as birds like rheas, screamers, ducks, geese, guans, quails, pheasants, grebes, pigeons, cuckoos, nightjars, limpkins, seedsnipes, burrowing owls, penguins, herons, ibises, vultures, hawks, owls, and falcons. The aforementioned predatory birds often hunt the small mammals of this region, including opossums, armadillos, porcupines, chinchillas, viscachas, guinea pigs, cottontail rabbits, tuco-tucos, maras, red squirrels, and mice. Larger, herbivorous mammals include blackbucks, tahr, peccaries, mule deer, and fallow deer, which are hunted by species such as cougars, culpeos, grey foxes, bush dogs, and spectacled bears.   Owlbears are known to call the Orienal Range home, at least in some small part, as well as Lindwurms, Peluda, and, of course, Dragons. A few remaining herds of Giant Orienal Elk are also known to call the Orienal Range home.   The most common trees in the Orienal Range are hazel, cypress, and coigue.

Natural Resources

Though they have not been tapped into much yet, the highlands and even the steppes of the Orienal Range are known to hide loads of gold, silver, copper, manganese, and chrome. In fact, it is thought that Ecumene's greatest supplies of diamond and platinum are hidden beneath the Orienal Range.
