Basic Information

Anatomy

Fur: Minotaurs have both fur and hair, with fur covering their lower half from the hips down, and their upper half from the chest to the top of their head. Hair grows over the tops of their arms, hands, and their chests, stomachs, and backs, as well as from the tip of their tail. The fur and hair of minotaurs is usually brown to black, but can also be white or rusty red.

Head: Minotaur heads are wide and long, with their skull typically possessing a cornual (horn) process on the frontal bone, except in polled (hornless) breeds. The horns posses a central, cornual process (bone). At around the age of 2, the bone becomes hollow and the space within it continues with the frontal sinuses. The horns of minotaur are typically short to medium in length, though longer horns do exist.
Minotaur have thirty-two teeth in total, with six incisors, and two canines in the front of the bottom jaw. There are no teeth in the top front, as minotaur have a hard palate. Minotaur also start life with "baby" teeth, and gain their first permanent teeth after around 3 years of age.
The eyes of minotaur are a half inch wide, with a diameter of about an inch. The pupils are ovular, and the irises are almost exclusively brown.

Limbs: Minotaur are bipedal, having two unguligrade legs which they walk on, and two arms. Their legs end in cloven (meaning two claws rather than a singular hoof) hooves, having two claws and two dewclaws.
Their arms are muscular and end in prehensile (grasping), five digited hands.

Tail: Minotaur possess a whip-like tail, referred to as a "switch", which are usually around fourteen inches in length.

Genetics and Reproduction

Reproduction: Minotaur reproduce sexually, and typically only have one to two children in their lifetime.   Gestation Period: The gestation period of minotaur typically range from two-hundred fifty-seven to three-hundred and twelve days.

Growth Rate & Stages

Age: Minotaur typically live from twenty-two to fifty-four years. The oldest recorded age is sixty-eight.

Ecology and Habitats

Temperature: Minotaur prefer temperatures between 27 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit, as they are warm blooded, and possess thick skin and fur.   Habitat: Minotaur do well in large, open grasslands, as the open plains make it easy to spot potential threats at a distance, and there is plenty of area for farming and building homes. It is also preferred that these grasslands are bordered by forests and rivers.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Diet: Minotaur are herbivorous, typically eating vegetables and occasionally fruits, though they are capable of digesting animal products.   Habits: Minotaur typically have 3-4 meals a day, eating large portion sizes. On average, they consume around 20 pounds of food a day.   Digestive System: Minotaur are ruminate, meaning they have a four-compartment stomach. The four compartments are the rumen, the reticulum, the omasum, and the abomasum. When minotaur eat, digestive enzymes found in their saliva travel with food through the esophagus to the first two compartments, the rumen and reticulum, collectively known as the reticulorumen. Once food is processed in these areas, it travels to the omasum, and finally the abomasum, or the "true stomach". From here, fecal matter then goes to the intestines, and so-on-so-forth.
