Solus

Long ago, when Solus created the world, it saw that the world was corrupt, and would only fall further into corruption if stopped. However, heeding its creation's prayers, it stayed its hand and created the sacred flame, with the promise that as long as the flame was kept alive, its creation would never be destroyed.

Divine Domain

Solus is the deity of triads, of truth, life, and sun. It is present in the daily rising and setting of the sun and the warmth of the hearthfire. It is seen in the light of a wildfire and the new growth left behind. It is heard in the hissing of embers and the rolling of thunder, the chanting prayers of hundreds of voices.

The Three Faces

In every cycle, there are always three organizations that form around the belief of Solus. The first, called the Flame of Solus, is the keeper of the eternal flame. They are protecters and guardians, warriors and leaders. The second, known as the Lantern Watchers, are the majority of the world, who live in the shadow of the Flame. They are nearly always at the mercy of the Flame of Solus, and many never live to see it. The third, known only as the Wild Ones to the other two, call themselves Lightning Seekers, and they sail away from the flame in search of other flames and other destinies. Solus is said to bless those who praise its name, and curse those who don't worship it, and the Flame of Solus uses that belief to justify why the Wild Ones are haunting figures of the sea.   The Flame's Hold In the Sunset Cycle, Solus is used as a method of power. The Flame of Solus keeps the sacred flame locked away and tends to it in secret, weakening the flame's life-giving power and plunging the rest of the world into darkness. The Flame justifies this by saying that the world is corrupt and needs to obey Solus' words in order to survive, and that the darkness is punishment for their deeds.  One thing that best shows this is the physical manifestation of Solus. In the Sunset Cycle, Solus is said to look like an older man with a regal posture and greying hair wearing red and gold robes, not unlike the appearance of the Flame's high priest and king, known to all besides his closest and most loyal followers as Hyperion. The Flame's actions in the Sunset Cycle are stricter and more violent than the last, most notably the persecution of the Lightning Seekers for their belief that Solus would not have brought the darkness upon them, and their search for an alternate flame, because they believe the flame in posession of the Flame of Solus is a false flame.

Artifacts and Relics

The Codex Solus is the holy book that is said to be the teachings of Solus passed down through the cycles. How much of it is actually true is lost to cycles long past, but there is always a sliver of truth in even the most changed chapters.    The Sacred Flame is the most well-known of all the artifacts, and its well-being echoes the well-being of the world. However, there is a third relic of Solus' existence that is kept secret from the Flame of Solus: The Touched, children born with a strange magical gift. Most of these powers are repressed by fear or by other, more nefarious, means. Records of Touched children keeping their powers into adulthood are rare. There is much speculation about what the meaning behind these magical children are. Many believe those that keep their power into adulthood become immortal, and become heralds of the next Cycle and are destined to survive the destruction that happens at the end of a cycle.
