Nuclear Fission & Fusion

Nuclear fission on Harptos was first pioneered in the early 21st Century. The first fission reactors were installed in Eldureia in the 2010s, and the technology propagated from there. The Boesian atomic age accomplished what it never could on Earth. The advancements it conferred resulted in the eventual abandonment of fossil fuels for power generation, which helped avert any potential climate disaster that may have befallen post-industrial Harptos. This article is about the use of nuclear reactions for power generation mostly, weapons will be discussed elsewhere.
Access & Availability
From the late 2020s to the 2380s, nuclear fission reactors were the foundation of many major power grids. By the 2050s, fossil-fuel power plants were entirely phased out in most places. With the invention of the aneutronic fusion reactor in 2376, some nations began to replace fission plants with these other facilities.
Discovery
Nuclear fission was first theorised in the late 20th century, but Harptos would only split the atom in 2002, thanks to the work of scientists from many nations who cooperated on a joint project at the University of Schoptendorf in Eldureia. Ultimately, the discovery is credited to the project's leaders: Aveline Deschamps, Iridis Kejo, and William Meyer.
