12-gauge polymer-cased shotgun shells
By nature, shotgun shells are a little harder to innovate upon than most other forms of ammunition. By the 25th century, the entire case and components of a shotgun shell (except for the shot itself) are made from plastic. The propellant charge is ignited by weapon electronics similar to those used in most other weapons of the age, meaning that contemporary shotgun shells do not require a primer section or a thicker shell base.
