The City of Amalgam

Amalgam is a high fantasy magical metropolis with elements of superheroics, dungeon punk, and steam punk. Designed to allow for as many character concepts, player types, and adventure ideas as possible while still remaining internally consistent, Amalgam has something for everyone.   Founded by an elvish wizard as a place for the world's outcasts, the city has risen to astonishing levels of wealth, power, and prestige. The Great Magefont at the city's center saturates the region with magic, allowing magical crafts and new industries to flourish. The city's culture of acceptance means people from every race and walk of life are welcomed. And the relatively lax legal system allows entrepreneurs to achieve unheard off levels of affluence, while raising the standard of living for the entire population.   But all this prosperity comes at a cost. Villains of every stripe see the city as a prize ripe for the taking. Organized crime is rampant in the less savory parts of the city. And numerous calamities have left parts of the city uninhabitable, allowing monsters to establish dens and lairs.   Various private peacekeeping guilds have risen to the challenge of protecting the city, and the promise of fame and fortune brings new adventurers to the city on a daily basis. With the blessing of their wizard king, heroes of all kinds set out to protect the city and its people, however they can.   Built to be used with Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 edition, with the Dragonmech system for supplimental material.
