Yaoren

The Yaoren of Cardinal* are distant from their other human cousins. Perhaps it is the cold isolationism of the Yaodai Kingdom, where nearly ever member of their culture lives. Perhaps they are accustomed to their own climate and find the rest of the galaxy uncomfortable. Maybe they just have everything they need already. In any case, the Yaoren are rarely seen outside their home system. 
The Yaoren believe themselves to be the social, political, and genetic apex of humankind. Their many layered ringworlds provide everything their civilization could ever want, and they value protecting what they have. This puts them at odds with a Concordian-run galaxy, as this makes free trade of goods and ideas... difficult. But in spite of pressures from the outside galaxy, the Yaoren maintain their cultural identity among themselves. 
And only themselves.
